Looking for amp recommendations for practice & stage
Hi all,
Yep I've deliberately left this topic very broad because I want to get a range of opinions rather than try to get consensus on "here's the single best option".
As a bass/guitar/Stick player, I used a GK MB-150 amp (bass) and 60(?)W Behringer modelling amp (guitar) quite happily. Now I'm looking for something suitable for making noises from iOS and Mac.
I've never dealt with keyboard amps+speakers before, so it's a near total mystery to me what to look for. In terms of sounds, I'm looking for an amp to handle just about anything from SWAM models to Moog to huge ethereal pads to (synthesized) drums to ... Hence the broad topic.
For those of you who are experienced with amplifying synth sounds, what do you use and would you recommend it? Guitar and bass amps generally have a certain character that works for specific types of music - does the same apply to keyboard amps? Do guitar &/or bass amps work well for keyboard too, or are there compromises to deal with? Do you need a physically big amp+speaker for stage, or are little amps loud enough? What about the Positive Grid Spark amps (which seem like a great desktop/practice amp for guitar with zillions of great onboard sounds)? If you just plug into a stage PA, what do you have sitting between iPad/computer and the PA?
What questions should I be asking here?

Keyboard amps are FRFR whereas guitar amps are very opinionated:

Bass amps are usually very accurate but their speaker and cabinet are geared toward the low end of the spectrum.
You'll want FRFR for iOS music. This can come in the form of a keyboard amp, FRFR thing, or a personal monitor. Or headphones or in-ear monitor, for that matter.
What you need depends on how much air you want to push, which depends in part on how much you want to rely on the PA, and partly on if you need to hear anything except your iPad while you are performing.
