On Being Charley / A Real Sax At Last
I’ve known Charley Krachy about forty years. He’s got one of the sweetest tenor sounds I’ve heard.
He sent me this short improv and then I worked on it. Basically I transposed his line twice, added delay by staggering the tracks a bit. Added reverb, compression, a synth sound, Module strings and a dash of Ravenscroft. I recently learned you can transpose audio in Cubasis. Wow, what a gift!
Thanks, as always @LFS.
I hope Charley will like what I’ve done and send me more.
It doesn’t pay to stack SWAM tenor up to this, but it’s the best we got.

I am really looking forward to hearing this tonight! I have used Cubasis transposition many times and found that it works quite well.
Nice! I love the accompaniment you’ve added to the second half.
I’d like to hear the original compared to what you’ve transposed.
This was excellent. The sax is great, but your work really complements it.
@Paulieworld, me too, but this is the first time with wavs.
@Edward_Alexander, thx, the first half is Charley’s original recording with a little reverb added.
I’m glad you felt that, @JudasZimmerman. Charley liked it, too.
Sonny Rollins... The Bridge. Yeah baby!!!
Good stuff. He’s definitely better than me (although I play alto, not tenor). Some of the dynamics in his playing are way more difficult than it might seem on first listening, and his tone is great.
Moody! Very nice!
Really nice... I'm sure Charley will enjoy your re-creation of his solo. He'll love hearing his original mixed with additional "Charleys" in different keys: The Charley Krachy Sax Ensemble.
We have a sax player in our area that out his horn aside for 40 years to make a living as an engineer. Now he goes around in the evenings whenever there's live music that will let him sit in. At our age musicians just want a chance to re-connect to the musical passions of our youth. I expect you'll get another solo to work with pretty quickly.
Thank you @Paulieworld @Pxlhg @michael_m @McD. Yeah, Charley has a beautiful tone. I think he just turned 80! We know each other a long time. He was sure he wouldn’t make it past to as his folks died young. But, lo, he’s still here and blowing!
Great stuff. Looking forward to more.
Thx @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr. No prob…

Thank you for sharing. I absolutely loved it!
Thx @ecou. Charley is a great player. I’m happy to share his sound with everyone.
