Squarp sequencer with Drambo?

Hi all-- anybody using the squarp pyramid or similar with Drambo as a sound engine? How well does it work?

  • I've used my Digitakt sequencer (8 MIDI tracks with 4vc polyphony each) with Drambo for a while - until I've completely switched to Drambo. A lot can be done natively with the CV quantizer, MIDI, CV sequencer and math modules.

    Or this :

Yeah, Drambo sequencer can't be beat. I don't see the need for hardware sequencers anymore. Just devote an iPad to Drambo.

  • I’ll ditch my hardware sequencers once developers start implementing a speed knob (an assignable midi cc that will always adjust the last-touched parameter) (PLEEEAAASSEEE!!!)

I can’t get past the lack of precision with touch interfaces and get so frustrated trying to dial things in, particularly sequences where there’s rarely an “in the ballpark” value that will suffice (unlike most noisemakers).

    That's a good idea!
I'll put this in my backpack on my beta trip.

  • I use deluge to sequence Drambo and stuff in AU, btw. It’s great!

  • I use a Sequentix Cirklon w/ AUM, Drambo, etc. The only real issues I’ve run into are the inherent connectivity issues with ipads. When everything is connected properly its quite enjoyable. I moved a few years back and it (Cirklon + ipad pro) was my only set up. I’m going to be switching back to either hardware or to a mac mini (studio?). As much as I love the overall user interface of ipads, the connection issues and general “sandbox” is too limiting in the long run.

  • @Apex Which have been your worst issues?

Similarly I’ve used Novation Circuit Tracks alongside Drambo and switched to Drambo only. It is very solid and no need for saving stuff on two separate units. I’m using Tracks as a controller now 🤣

  • Midi syncing = meh, Ableton Sync solves most this for me.

Power issues. Sometimes it charges sometimes it doesn’t. HUBS & DONGLES. Sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. There’s no consistency whatsoever. Not even with Apples own products. I totally love the combo of Cirklon + Ipad Pro, but I need to be able to actually get projects done and not be chasing bugs around constantly. If Apple would just add another port or a dedicated power jack a lot of these issues would go away.

Whats even crazier is my old ipad air with a lightning connector was/is ROCK SOLID. Maybe its a USB-C issue? I’ve even had the USB-C jack on my ipad tested. It’s pretty irritating.

  • I have a squarp pyramid and have been on the drambo beta since early days.

Until recently, I kept my Pyramid around because there were things that were easier to do on using the hardware.

With the coming release, there is no reason to use my Pyramid anymore. It's been collecting dust, and will soon be listed on Reverb.. Certainly a very fun and compact sequencer, but I move toward things that are quick to use. Drambo is there and I think a lot of people are going to be blown away by the coming update :)

Can you give me an example of a hardware sequencer with this feature? The concept of a "last parameter" knob seems like a simple no brainer now you mention it.

    I feel you.

I got to the point where I just said Fuck dongles/hubs and run one cable to my audio interface.

I went back to Ableton and Mac Mini for a while but I forgot how much I hated mousing around. Touch is better/faster.

How are you hooking the two together? Midi cable or midi via Bluetooth?

Interestingly, I had very similar issues with bad lightning cables. Like "insufficient power source" messages although the same source worked well with a proper cable.
    Maybe it's the USB-C cables?
A new cable out of the Apple box should always work...

BTW, I'm using BT MIDI 90% of the time and I'm happy with it. It has limited bandwidth and I can't use it for streaming larger polyphonic multitrack projects but otherwise it's fine (mostly using LINK for syncing over WiFi).

All the new MPCs and Akai Force work this way. The big knob always controls the parameter you last touched on the screen. It’s really night and day compared to using the touch screen alone to tweak parameters.

Ah true, I forgot about that. I shut those devices out of my head more than I thought.
