iOS apps on M1 mac question

I just got an M1 MacBook Pro last week and would love to try to put model 15 on there just to know how to do it. When I look for it though, it doesn’t show up. I’m wondering if it has to do with iCloud account stuff- my family’s iOS App Store account is under my wife’s Apple ID because she was the first in the house to have an iOS device years ago and when I got my first iPhone, I just piggy backed onto that App Store account. Family sharing showed up a few years later.

My Mac App Store account is under my iCloud account however, which is the ID where I have logic and some other apps. My iCloud is on the family sharing and I am a “head of household,” but my iOS apps are still all under my wife’s Apple ID. Would they show up in purchased on the Mac App Store or do I have to be signed in with her Apple ID to see them? Going through purchases apps on the Mac App Store is kind of a pain too, I don’t see for a way to search for specific apps. But when I do a general search for model 15, it comes up but not as purchased by me, a price is still listed. I haven’t tried clicking on it because I’ve had too many other things to get together in my transition to the M1 mac from my 2012 mbp, but I might try that in hopes that it then recognizes that the app was purchased by a family member previously (even though I am said family member!)

Thanks, I wasn’t able to find answers to this situation specifically so hoping someone else has experience with it on here.

  • There’s a VST wrapper for Model 15 on Moog’s site. Download, install, and you’re off. Or just use the AUv3s in Logic or Garageband

  • Sounds a little confusing, so you’re sharing as the head of household? And you bought Model 15 on your wife’s iOS account? You may have to ask your wife to share her apps with you also. It should definitely show Model 15 on the Mac App Store, I have it on my Mac but I have everything on one account.

Have you looked for it in your purchased apps section in the App Store app? You get there by clicking on your account image in the lower left column. Once there, select the person that purchased the app. It should be there if the account it was purchased under is in the family sharing plan.

I think it is possible for developers to not allow for apps to be shared though.

Edit: Model 15 does support family sharing and even some IAP. So, that shouldn't be the issue.

I can't tell you how many people have no idea how to navigate through the hidden functions of the App Stores. Apple tries to present users with minimalist experiences, but ease of use often suffers and even I will be surprised at some obscure feature which was never obvious until I discover it by accident or someone else demonstrates it.

I think their use of a picture of my head as a button to get to various different settings and features is the single silliest design choice they've made. I just don't get it.

  • I had one of the people on our family sharing plan check for the availability of my purchase of Model 15 for them. They do see it, but it shows up in the purchased Mac Apps section/tab for them and not the iPhone apps section.

  • I did search for it under her name, but I’ll have to see if I’m looked in Mac apps. I don’t remember seeing it. I do use logic, so the vat wrapper isn’t what I need, I just wanted to see how to get apps to show up.

After just installing the plugins I use and trying to keep track of all of the licensing schemes, find installers on websites (and sometimes there are none, you have to search through emails to find links), etc from many different brands, I appreciate the App Store model more. It’s so easy to move to a new iPad or iPhone.

I’m not sure what the terminology is, I think I’m listed as an adult or maybe another head of household, but her account is the main one for iCloud for everyone. These were all set up back when I was first in the apple ecosystem and had an iPad but not a Mac, or something like that. It was in the days of the 4s and iPad 2, so whatever year that was. I don’t think it’s possible to change it later so by the time I realized the difference, I was too far in…

  • Thanks everyone, I don't think I was looking in Mac apps before, that must have been the issue. Just tried Animoog in logic and it worked really well.
