App switch on iPhone 8+ without home button?

Is there a way to do this? Have been incorporating Audiobus for the sidebar but seems a bit over the top.
Is there an app/workaround that can help?
Thanks!

  • Not sure if this helps but If you go to system settings -> Accessibility-> Touch -> Assistive Touch

You can set up a menu (which is a round tap target) that stays on the screen. You can tap to open a number of icons and set those icons to do various things including launch a shortcut. You can use shortcuts to launch any app you like or do more complex scripts. There are lots of built in options too.

It’s also a good way to get you to the Home Screen if your Home Screen button doesn’t work reliably.

That helps very much and you are a star 🙏🏻

  • you can also use back tap. settings-accessibility-touch-back tap-double tap- select app switcher

  • By the way, if you add "Accessibility Shortcuts" under Settings => Control Centre => Customise controls
and then add "Assistive Touch" under Settings => Accessibility => Accessibility Shortcut,
you can enable and disable the above more easily - in case that tap target is in the way.

Another pretty useful function on the iPhone 8 Plus:
Go to Settings => Accessibility => Touch => Back Tap.
Choose "Double Tap" and enable the action "App Switcher".

This will open the task switcher upon double tapping on the back of your iPhone and tapping outside the apps area will also let you jump to the home screen.

  • These are all very useful suggestions. Had no idea of these functions. Thanks very much people!

Not sure how I stumbled on this thread, yesterday. However, this was so helpful to me.

I don't have any current issues with my home button, but I do have a nagging fear that the constant double-pressing makes the location a pretty obvious potential point-of-failure, at some point in the future. More than that, having my iPad in a Otterbox-like case, the button is made more annoying to press on account of the extra case buffering/protection. But with these access shortcuts, the process of switching apps has become a whole lot more enjoyable. And with opacity set at minimum (Also, having the ability to move the icon) it hasn't obstructed my viewing of anything.

    Great quality-of-life hack.

    So, yeah...Thanks :) :)

  • The virtual app switcher.

White circle with a black square border.

Is there no option to customise this.

    Iv seen circle versions online.

It just gets in the way of every needed function in Drambo or a DAW.

To decide to not use it.
