Very interesting. Adopting a similar method to Samsung Dex. Not a bad way to approach it.
That being said, sorta curious why they need the Dock to accomplish this. The current iPad should be able to run Mac OS (or, at least a modified version of Mac OS that supports the iPad apps)
The modularized Dock looks interesting. I wonder if Sensel Morph knows something more than just quietly shutting down.
Thanks for the video @Telstar5
Read carefully: mention of a MacOS-like UI. Improved UI features to be enabled by attaching to a new style of Magic Keyboard / dock.
Nice, but that’s a far cry from saying MacOS and Logic Pro are coming to the iPad.
Umm, I don't get it. I tried to scan the wandering nonsense of the patent application,
https://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=11,320,869.PN.&OS=PN/11,320,869&RS=PN/11,320,869
I don't see what this has to do with iPadOS and macOS. It seems to me that the "modes" they are talking about have to do with rotation of the tablet to the docking surface.
Also, the thing was submitted in 2020 and looks like it includes a touch bar. Now personally, I liked the idea of the touch bar, but I seem to be very much in the minority in this opinion and Apple has definitely killed that idea dead.
Totally seriously, how does that patent application "lay open" the technology or implementation of the "invention?" It's a patent application on a half-baked idea.
Pretty much just clickbait if you ask me. But as a dock, that thing looks like it could be nice. Guaranteed to be way too rich for my blood though anyway.
Why is this in General App Discussion?
Should be in "Off Topic" or perhaps "Speculative YouTube Clickbait Bullshit".

It would be very logical for MacOS and iPad OS to become one since the hardware is more or öess the same since some time, but just imagine the confusion on the software market... Right now there are music making apps for both platforms but prices of iPad versions of most apps are considerably lower than those for MacOS.
Productcannibalism
Apple will never do this. never. and if they do, they will find a d**kmove to force you to buy the shiny newest device.
Maybe.... maybe, there will be a huge (!) update of garageband in regards of "logic coming to iOS".
Most desperate finger crossing wish for iPados 16 is finally this external monitor support. this could be really really cool for many apps (AUM, Cubasis to name a few
)
I don’t think so. MacOS is an open system while iOS is a golden cage and I don’t think that will change any time soon. Macs are for professional use while iPads are more consumer products. Of course this is not strictly black and white. Consumers also buy Macs and there is also professional use of iPads but generally these are two different device classes with a different focus. Mac users would never accept a transition to a „golden cage“ while iPad Pro users accept that and Apple earns well with the AppStore.
I'll be taking bets of which of these things happens 1st:
1. Logic on iPad
2. The 2nd Coming
3. AR909 Kick Gets Fixed
Winner will be declared when the events happen, until then, I'll hold all bets in an escrow account.....
Pray for #2 because I'm pretty sure #1 and #3 will be top priority in the new heaven and the new earth. At least from my understanding of scripture.
I should add: 4. Nanostudio gets audiotracks ( for @cyberheater and his thread
)
The real interesting aspect to a nontechy like me is replacing the conventional keyboard with a 2nd “tablet” keyboard. The Roli guy predicted the demise of the traditional QWERTY keyboard and replacement with an MPE style Seaboard type device… like QWERTY with aftertouch to the nth degree. Maybe Apple is thinking something like this and the hardware keyboard is just a transitioning to the next gen keyboard device.
So much tech we have is simply a refinement over a century of the original concept… like the internal
combustion engine. The typewriter keyboard is just as old. Maybe it’s time for an update.
I can’t wait until Logic comes to the iPad personally. Then everyone here will finally be able to try it, and after a week go “meh, it’s not all that different than most other DAWs” and move on to the new shiny.
At long last the never-ending myth of Logic on the iPad will have run it’s course. 🙏🏼
