  • Imo it works as intended...
The three buttons are not all grouped together.
The first is your layout selector - you can decide whether you prefer keyboard or pads as your input device. This one is ‘sticky’, remembering its state.
The other two (TRK, PAT) are pad modes. Tapping them once will enter mode, second time will exit mode, or you switch between modes.
This mechanism supports temporary mode selection... f.e hold PAT to enter mode, release PAT to go back to your input device.
When you are in one of the modes (PAT or TRK) and you tap layout selector button, you effectively do two things - exit mode and switch layout.

    Well that's possible indeed:

Looks great but I couldn't manage to make it work 😅 I've connected MIDI to CV of track 8 with MIDI input of track 7 as in your example, and even enabled track 7 to always receive MID but no luck.

Oh stupid me, sorry, of course it should be the output of the track above, not the input 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • Tap on the MIDI input of MIDI2CV so it flashes orange
    • Tap on the "Main" track pad right below the rack
    • Choose the MIDI out port of track 7 in its mixer channel

Thanks for the answer and no worries, it just confirms that I'm not the only one to be confused 😁
Great, this works! I can append a Note generator after that if I need to drive a MIDI AUv3 synth rather than an internal synth with CV+gate.

I've tried to use this twice on the same track with a MIDI mixer but couldn't be lucky, only the first MIDI2CV seems to work shrugs

Anyway, thanks for your time and... I really think a MIDI input CV module could be great 😁

it's amazing how well you designed UI ... even through delatively lot of features everything is SUPER intuitive and straightforward, figured instantly everything what os new in second, not needed to watch manual for second...UX masterpiece !

Thank you! It's beta team and me.

After more than year spend exclusively just with Elektron boxes you definitely dragged me back to iPad :-)

I find that Drambo 2.0+Elektron kit are a perfect union.

@Skyblazer Indeed there used to be a direct setting of "Beats in pattern" but it has been removed in order to allow for seamless auto-grow and different bar lengths on different tracks.

I've requested that as well long ago and there's no reason not to make the beats, bars and pattern size adjustment more flexible. It's just that we're in the minority (well, as irrelevant as 7/4 is :D) so too few people wanted that so far.

write me down as one of those people. I think it was an important feature

Me too! Half of my compositions are in 5/4, 7/4, 11/4….

Someone posted a list of nifty shortcuts, mainly using Undo and Mute, but now I can't seem to find it again. Not sure if it was in this thread. Anyone remembers? Stuff like Undo + something to clear, Mute + header to bypass module, and more.

Btw, the Drambo home page still explains the old UI in the documentation link. I hope the shortcuts could be listed there or inside the app, I'm sure I'll need to refresh them later:)

Answering myself here ... I didn't find anything in the pdf manual that is linked on Drambo home page, but there is another online documentation where this stuff is listed (https://www.beepstreet.com/drambo-docs/user-interface-overview.html):

    Shortcuts and gestures

    • Swipe up on step sequencer, sequence navigation bar, clip or hold to show context menu
    • Swipe right on sequence navigation bar (out of boundaries) to set clip length
    • Swipe up / down on track pads to solo / mute
    • Swipe left on clip to show piano-roll editor
    • Step sequencer: select area, hold it and tap another step to instantly copy/paste selection
    • UNDO + pad - clear sequence in current track
    • UNDO + pattern - clear pattern
    • UNDO + clip - clear clip
    • UNDO + sequence navbar - clear bars
    • UNDO + rec - reset current clip (clear + reset settings)
    • UNDO + knob - clear all automation data for this param
    • UNDO + scene - clear scene
    • UNDO + mute - unmute, unsolo all tracks
    • UNDO + play - panic
    • Swipe down on UNDO to latch
    • While in MUTE mode - tap on module header to enable / disable the module
    • Hold STEP + play - start playback from selected step

@symianbeatz Well, there are 100 ways to do that, depending on how you build your effects.
My preferred way of doing it is to use a Mixer > X-Fader module as a separate Dry/Wet control and automate that.
The advantage of using intermediate modules like this (same for the Amp module) is that it's easier to swap things around it afterwards, without major re-routing.

Thanks for replying, I'm using au FX so I'm just looking to automate the enable state for portions of a clip say the last bar of a four bar loop, p-locking mutes on steps seems to do the trick unless of course theres a more elegant and quicker solution you may have..

I would like to think that the music i make with Drambo isn’t EDM…but i don’t know what your definition of EDM is.
    A couple examples:

  • Just popping in to say a huge thank you to @giku_beepstreet and the Drambo beta team! What an amazing update! Kind of dream come true, really.

I actually watched your first video and the music you made with V2. Liked the track, but also enjoyed your video style. I can see tutorials being twice the length of the contained info ;) but in the case of an app that appears to have such a steep learning-curve, the slower pacing likely helps a lot. Certainly, the interjection of humour is probably good for memorising the material, by way of reinforcement :)

Thanks a lot, that’s really useful feedback to hear. The basic thought behind my tutorials and channel going forwards (there will be a lot of other stuff) is that I’m nowhere near as knowledgeable as massive synth/modular experts but I can figure out these apps well enough. So while I may not be able to teach as well as some other YouTubers, I can lean into humour as a way to make the content entertaining while also still hopefully being useful, and the plan is that’s a reason to watch the vids in itself and will keep an audience coming back.

I’m still working out tone and video length (the first thing I learnt this week is that keeping things concise is a massive skill, and doing that and also trying to be funny is a massive balancing act that I will hopefully start to hone in on much better in future).

Thanks for watching - it’s much appreciated, particularly in these early days when I have very few subscribers! Building from nothing will take a while, so any and all feedback to help me pick up more viewers in this format is brilliant.

I don’t think I’ve ever made anything EDM. Maybe check out my channel?

A good portion of my material is created in Drambo. Here’s one example:

    Nice ambient track and video!!

To be honest that track sounds like it could have been created in any number of other apps. I'm not a modular person so Drambo doesn't really appeal to me at all for that reason alone (I know it has presets but modular in general is too much of a time suck for me). I keep waiting to hear something from Drambo that doesn't sound like "electronic" music. Thanks!!

    Okie dokie.

  • is there a way to pitch "Noise" for snares?

all my synth generated snares, sound the same.

or better asked any tips? to get snare sounds in the realm of seekbeats or elastic drums?

  • Polka to the fore!

I like to think that EDM is only a fraction of electronic music. However if you don’t want it to sound electronic perhaps it isn’t software for you and probably head to Cubasis or maybe loopy pro?

Just make music where you’re happiest and get the most joy. If Drambo isn’t it for you then that’s cool. Find your tool and avoid the self induced stress👊🏼™️

For me personally Drambo is the top Music Creation tool of choice for the Music i like to make because it brings me joy and i don’t care about genres or labels. I just create what feels good to me and hopefully is pleasing to others as well.

Drambo let’s me manifest the music i feel in my soul and release it.

Don’t bring a stick to a knife fight my mixed martial arts teacher always said…unless you know how to use it 😉

Sorry to be replying to a question with another question but could you be a bit more specific what sort of music are you expecting to make (examples)? So far I got the idea that you are indie/rock type of guy but I’m probably well of the mark.

  • Clip launcher question after watching a couple of tutorial videos: is there a way to set the repeats to “loop” or “infinite”? Right now, looping a scene looks binary by using the loop button on the right nav. But there are times live when I want to mix/match looping scenes and “repeat scene x times and then play next scene”. Not possible?

almost anything can be done in any daw-like software if we are not talking about something like max/msp. you can make pattern-based music in reaper and record guitars in fl studio. it's a question of what things this particular app helps you achieve more easily.

No I'm a jazz fusion, funk, prog rock classical guitarist. My "curse" if you will, is that I was already a musician before iOS came along. I've been patiently waiting for iOS music to catch up and give musicians the tools to make it easier to create any type of music not just electronic music in 4/4 which it seems to favor. I'm still waiting. Not trying to diss Drambo at all or criticize anyone's music choices, just wondering out loud if Drambo lends itself to anything other than electronic music. I do use Loopy Pro and other iOS music apps. I realize I'm in the minority here. Thanks for patiently putting up with my questions!!

I think many here were already acoustic/electric musicians before entering iOS realm, although I personally see it as an extra gear as opposed to a curse.
It’s true, many build their compositions in a more Lego style manner and others like to capture stuff live. Which of the two deserves more the musician badge is perhaps a discussion for another day.
    As for Drambo…
In the end it’s really up to you how you use software to achieve what you need as already pointed out by @echoopera and @lukesleepwalker.

I was listening to the BBC Desert Island Disks with Thom Yorke this morning. One of the tracks he’s chosen was an electronic drum and bass type track that totally sounded like jazz. I think in this day and age using old ways to classify music is a bit dated.

I play mostly Jazz on trumpet with other musicians and learnt/played lots about harmony and theory these last two years.
I see electronic music as a way of releasing ideas differently, also because electronic music is often meant to be played on your own. I get satisfied by what this offers which in no way is comparable to what playing with other people live can be.
That Drambo update makes us spoilt. It really is an invitation to get creative using all tools IOS music brought us so far.
And the results are a real treat for the ears, if you -also- like programming music, that is
