Non-Keyboard MIDI Controllers

What are your favorite MIDI controllers without keys? I've been looking at different controller types and wanted to know what people are actually using, or are also GASing over :D

Channel strip type? Clip launching type? Encoders?
What software are you trying to control?

  • BopPad
    MIDI Fighter/Twister
    Roli Blocks
    MINIM
    LaunchPad

Nothing in particular. I'm just inquiring as to what people are using and what they're doing with it. Just a general question on workflows.

  • Linnstrument - still think it's the best available option. The smaller version is all you need.

get an akai midimix or novation launch control
if you have enough budget for Faderfox, get mx12> @KirbyMumbo said:

  • Akai APC 49 mk2
    Launchpad Pro
    SL Mixface
The Akai I find most useful especially with Loopy Pro

Never heard of the MINIM. Looks like an interesting pad controller!

That looks crazy cool from the vids I'm seeing of it.

The APC looks cool. Kinda like an Ableton Push.

  • just noticed I typed 49 should read 40.
If you are triggering pads/loops it is my best option

  • Because of budget restrictions and because I don't have a fixed space to play, I just love small and cheap controllers. 4x Korg nano controls each designated to a specific synth and one for koala, a launch control and a launch control xl for mixing duties, a launchpad to launch clips, got an old Fatboy (midi only) to control another synth, my old trusted uc33e for extra channels and midi out, a Beatstep for sequencing end endless encoders and a Korg nano pad to whack in drums etc. Each was between 20 and 50 euro's. For me the advantage is portability, I can easily mix and match, they're cheap so I won't cry if one breaks. Most are usb powered, so just an additional powered hub and the cck are enough to have a whole system running. Adding my Typhon (also usb powered AND usb audio to the iPad!) and a model cycles that functions as an audio interface, I just need a headphone, no other audio cables, just a mess of usb :D

  • Faderfox ec4
    Launchpad pro
I have a JX08 (Roland boutique) that I basically use as a compact soft synth controller (its great at that)

Never seen any of the Fadefox stuff. looks really sturdily built. Thanks!

  • I’m looking for a controller with faders and drum pads, maybe a couple knobs, variety.
Do any of you use this, or something similar? And does it suck?
