Hooking a midi keyboard up to an iPad Air
What do I need to hook up a midi keyboard to my iPad Air?

Assuming you're talking USB, you'll need a CCK (Camera Connection Kit). Get the official Apple CCK as the knock-offs can be problematic.
Cool, that's what I thought, thanks!
For lightning connectors, they now call it Lightning to USB Camera Adapter.

Ok, gotcha
If your keyboard has USB, the CCK is all. Otherwise you'll need a MIDI to USB adapter as well. They can be dirt cheap (I've had good results with the HDE ones on Amazon <$10) or go with something mo pro level. Assuming you will end up using the synth and effects Apps in the iPad as well, you'll also want to get an audio interface. Which means either an interface box that combines audio and MIDI, or a powered USB hub to merge them into the CCK. Depending on the combo interface, that may also need a powered hub even if it's the only thing plugged in - iPads are stingy with power out.
My porta-jam rig current incarnation has a Focusrite 2i4 combo interface, hub, two keyboards and a button box. Fits into a handy dandy optical case I rescued from work (except the KX-5).
