Zeeon running on desktop
I saw an article about how Zeeon is supposed to work on the desktop now. Evidently the only daw it works in as an AUv3 is Logic.
I installed it, but it doesn't pass plugin validation on launch. M1 16GB Monterey 12.3.1
It kinda works in stand alone (although the preset menus are kinda jacked up) but it doesn't work in Logic.
Has anyone else got it working in Logic yet?
Comments
I had this same issue- To fix I clicked the "Use" box in Logic's Plugin Manager next to Zeeon and it started working, validation be damned.
I re-ran the scan a couple of times and it wouldn't validate. I'm not sure what it means to fail validation so I figured I'd just wait until the dev sorts it out.
If it works in Logic Pro it should also work in GarageBand.
And Ableton 11.2 beta
It doesn't work for me... but here's the article:
https://www.synthanatomy.com/2022/06/beepstreet-zeeon-analog-modeling-synthesizer-now-runs-as-an-auv3-plugin-on-macos.html?fbclid=IwAR1Y0IyvoLpvT3B7IQnZTOifbwZ_OL9WgeBXPrK-53QOlpW3diQ5JQXllSQ
I think the author of that article made some assumptions about it working without testing it?
Don't worry about it passing validation. Just tick the use box in Logic plug in manager. It will work.
Ooh, I missed this announcement, thanks for the heads-up.
Zeeon v1.55 is working as a AUv3 in Ableton Live 11.2 beta(native M1 mode), and also as a AUv3 in Logic Pro 10.7.4 on my Macbook M1 Pro (macOS 12.4)
I forgot how good Zeeon sounded. It sounds like hardware.
So this just happened:
That was quick!
Dev replied quickly to my inquiry 🧐 in Facebook group too
OK... there are some very weird errors going on with desktop version opened in standalone mode.
For example, I try to adjust the "Tone" knob in the Filter section and it will adjust the "Res" knob instead. And an attempt to adjust the "Osc 1" knob in the Mixer section adjusts the "Cutoff" knob in the Filter section!
It looks like all of the mouse over targets are at least two knob positions off to the right!
Here's a link to the a screen capture of the errors in action (using the service WeTransfer): https://we.tl/t-UMIiXMYgmR
I haven’t updated yet, but I noticed the target map was off by a couple positions when selecting presets
You could maybe zip the .mov file?
I just posted a link to the video using WeTransfer. Please try it. https://we.tl/t-UMIiXMYgmR
I believe they will only host the video for a week.
Did anyone manage to restore purchases on the desktop "version"?
FYI: I just tried the updated Zeeon. Still has the interface mapping issues in stand alone, but as an AUv3 in Logic is works great and all the control mapping looks to be correct.
Here's the message on the M1 Mac version of GarageBand, trying to use Zeeon as an AU:

Just repeating what I was told by someone else here on the forums: AU is the format for desktop, AUv3 only applies to iOS. So Logic Pro and GarageBand on macOS use AU.
k
However... Zeeon is listed as an AUv3. Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro support AUv2 AND AUv3
From Apple:
Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro support most Audio Unit v2 and Audio Unit v3 plug-ins on Mac computers with Apple silicon, whether or not the plug-in was built for use with Apple silicon. Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro also support AUv3 Audio Unit plug-ins that support iOS, iPadOS, and Mac computers with Apple silicon
V2 audio units are the old format on macOS. You can still use them in everything at this point, but it is becoming harder and harder to build for them. AUv3 is the current format for plugins on both iOS and macOS. One thing to note is that macOS has the ability to run AUv3 in-process for those plugins built to support it. iOS can only run sandboxed AUv3.
There are many reasons that plugin might fail validation. Unless there is a bug in auvaltool, a failing plugin has a bug in it. But, since there are so many ways a plugin might fail validation, the host might not ever use the bit of the plugin that fails, and so never have a problem with the plugin. An example might be that a plugin reports itself as having channel capabilities that cause it to crash and fail validation, but it is never used outside of stereo-stereo settings where it does work fine and is completely usable in the host.
BTW, there are some issues/bugs with auvaltool where it reports the wrong location for the issue in the plugin. I had a situation with LRC5 where the location of the problem reported by auvaltool was in the channel capabilities but my actual bug was a memory access error under repeated initializations of the plugin that didn't seem to ever be hit by any iOS host. I spent weeks trying to find the actual bug until I finally gave up and just rewrote LRC5 completely from scratch.
Same here - knobs, presets etc. all out of position, not usable in its current state.
Sorry for the derail but can I ask a stupid question? I haven't used my 10 year old Macbook for music in years and I have only recently gotten into iOS music.
How does this ‘AUv3 on desktop’ thing work? Do you have to buy a separate version in the computer app store? And then basically only Logic supports it (for now, I heard rumours of Ableton)?
There's a whole bunch of "it depends" on the answers to your questions. The first thing is you have to be on a macOS version that supports AUv3 plugins. That would be macOS 10.11+. To use the iOS versions of AUv3 plugins the Mac has to be an M1 or newer type CPU. If you have to pay for it again depends on if the developer has allowed the distribution of the iOS version on the Mac App Store. They can choose to put a Mac version of the same plugin but is a different build and charge different prices.
Hosts with support are Logic, GarageBand, MainStage, Reaper, Multitrack Studio, Live in beta, and a couple of others that are more special purpose. Eventually, every host that wants to support AU's will have to enable AUv3 because version 2 audio units are going to be removed from the OS and things like Logic.
Clear. Thanks NS.
Any word from @giku_beepstreet on a fix in the works for the desktop version of Zeeon? We were so close.
Has Zeeon disappeared from the Mac M1 App Store?
Also, trying to do a restore on my preset purchases on Zeeon and the presets are not showing. Any ideas?
I could not restore purchased presets either, but was able to export the purchased banks from the iPad and copy them to the Mac. I could then double-click to import them into Mac Zeeon.
Thanks. That worked.
