MIDI Key Zone - A Different MIDI Channel for Each Range
Hi,
I am using MIDI Key Zone to route certain notes (from Atom PR2) to two different MIDI instruments.
I can create 2 ranges pretty easily - BUT - HOW.... I mean how on earth do you set which MIDI channel a specific Range (set up in MIDI Key Range) sends out the MIDI notes/message on?
Thanks In Advance
Channeless in Chenai
PS - yeah, yeah, yeah.... I know you can set note ranges in AUM itself. But I would like to use MIDI Key Range since I paid $$ for it.

It makes no sense to be on the same channel unless they're going to different MIDI ports, or different MIDI outputs in AUM. Have you checked the AUM routing matrix? It might show the multiple outputs. Otherwise, it might just select MIDI channels based on the Range Number. You could check that with a MIDI monitor.
@uncledave - Agreed;
So within a single instance of MIDI Key Range - how do you set Range 1 to say MIDI Channel 1 and Range 2 to MIDI Channel 2?
I assume (boy that'll get you into trouble) - that since the app lets you set 2 or more Key Ranges within a single instance; then you can route or set each Key Range (again within a single instance of the app) to DIFFERENT MIDI channels, correct? But how?
I don’t think you can.
I use a different instance for each output destination, all with the same KB input.
It is a bit confusing, but I think of each instance as a note filter to only let through the note range you specify to the midi destination. Each instance limits the range for each destination.
Each instance has multiple ranges available, but I think of using these to create unique situations for a specific output. For example, in one instance, create 2 zones with a dead octave in the middle. Route this to the synth. Create another instance with a zone to cover the dead octave in the first instance. Route this second instance to a Midi processor, then map the Midi processor to the synth. Only the octave in the second instance’s zone get processed by the Midi processor. The processor could be a midi-echo effect, or something like Chord Jam, etc.
@CracklePot - Thank You!
Yeah, it is confusing. It seems to me there's no value in allowing two (or more) distinct ranges within an instance of the app - if they can't be sent off on different channels. Maybe I'll contact the app dev and ask about this.
Do the rewind and fast forward looking arrows do anything?
@Poppadocrock
The left/right arrows move the entire range (as it sits) up or down the keyboard.
Right on. I have midi tools but never really messed with the key zone one.
