Koala's new Split Stems feature?!
I'm pleasantly shocked. 😱 @elf_audio does it once again! I don't need to rely on a website to help split vocals! I can just do it in Koala! That is absolutely the best thing since Samurai Mode!

Yeah, this was released as an Easter egg a few months back, but now it's official.

Ah, I definitely missed that thread since I wasn't using Koala regularly back then.
It is absolutely crazy that this is just another feature in this app. Amazing. Amazing!
I just had a play with this. Incredible feature!
This one feature is worth the price of the app alone.
Imagine if there was an option to further extract the individual parts of the extracted drum track. Maybe if @elf_audio could find a neural network which has been trained to do this ... surely someone must do it out there! Get kick, snare, hats, other from the drum track.
Excellent quality so far, great work.
Yep fantastic update yet again. I’m also really excited for the strum feature to return.
The stem split part of Koala is taken from the open source Spleeter libraries. I know of no open-source libraries designed to split apart drum tracks. Could be, but I haven't heard of any.
Besides ... that's what the slicer is for.
Great feature. It’s getting so good that it’s also becoming my main audio editor in addition to beat maker
Yup I only brought KOALA recently only for this feature
Hi
Sorry if it's a stupid question but the "split stem" fonction only appears with Koala in stand alone. When opening Koala in AUM it's not there.
What am I missing?
Probably takes too much ram to include in the AUv3.
it makes sens. Thanks for your answer!
The library allows for training your own network, provided you have training data. I think, if you take something like DrumComputer and run trough all its presets, each time exporting the mix + kick/snare/hats/other tracks, you would have decent training data. Could be done by a kind soul
Recently I needed to extract vocals from a track for some guerilla sampling and I was not so pleased with the result. The extracted vocals still had a lot of instrument sounds. I tried the same track with the app Transcribe+ and the separation was much better.
It seems like the drums that come out of the stems split are enough degraded in quality that I'd think the training would have to be done on split stems rather than on something like Drum Computer. But, I'm just guessing here. I have no actual knowledge of the process.
Is stem separation not possible in Auv3? 🤷🏻♂️😱
Correct. It was deemed too memory intensive to be supportable in an AUv3 plugin, which has limited memory available to it.
Ahhh….that’s understandable
