Experienced a project that erased all its MIDI data in all the regions/clips. All the clips, FX, aux levels, mixer levels are still there, but all the MIDI data is gone. All the snapshots are the same-no MIDI data.

Any chance of recovering the MIDI data?

I’d contact them directly. I don’t suppose you made backups? There are projects backups stored in the project file. You might see if this page helps:

Hate to say it, but I may be moving on...or I'll go the route of using Auria only for final mix and master, like @richardyot.
I'd like to use just one DAW app, but seems like "no dice"

Data loss is pretty catastrophic, so in your shoes I would certainly be reluctant to ever use Auria for MIDI again.

For audio, in my use case, it runs without any issues, but I'm obviously one of the lucky ones because there are reports of people struggling even when not using MIDI.

But for now I still think Auria is the best audio mixer on the platform, maybe one day Cubasis will take the crown, once they improve audio editing and routing.

Now, the App does not list any email address, which is not good.
The mentioned support website has a "Support" tab and there, the following email address is listed:

    [email protected]

So, this one needs to work.

I sent them an email on Friday at that address and a ticket was made, and they fixed the keyboard crash this weekend.
    info@drumagog is the correct one.

No dice on the wiki steps to recover. Seems to be just gone. I bounced it down to Audio in another project and that project survived. But I wanted to make changes to MIDI, but found it deleted.

It was a small ambient piece with a Pianobook piano, Twin2, ProR and Timeless 2. I think I’ll just re-create it with Cubasis, Pure Piano, Synthmaster One, Eos2 and Bleass delay :'(

Did you use the ‘Clean up project’ button in settings? That can erase all unused tracks not on the screen, even on previous versions of the song.

I think that's the best (and only) way to get going with any professional audio projects when it comes to iPad-only music production (if one is brave enough to go that route). Cubasis 3 and Auria Pro each have their own thing and actually complement each other quite well.

Cubasis 3 is king when it comes to all things MIDI (composition, arrangement and performing)
Auria Pro excels in serious audio editing, mixing and mastering

So yeah, not as efficient as having one-does-it-all DAW, but it's not uncommon in some studios to have two (Logic and Ableton comes to mind).

Just avoid anything MIDI-related in Auria and use it for audio only.

Yep...I think I'm 100% there now. Too bad I can't use the FabFilter synths - they are excellent.

What I do in this case is to record the synth part and immediately bounce to audio once it’s done. Works for me 😀

Just tried it to no avail.

Also, strangely, when I select on a MIDI region to edit it, I can't draw in any notes. Somehow it is corrupted, I surmise.

You misunderstood, did you use that after you turned midi into audio, that option will delete, not recover, unused tracks in the project folder.

    How is that done?

You can Save As (it's called "Save Copy Of Project"), that's the easiest way.

Ok, re-recorded and drew in MIDI after getting over my “anger” :)

Any good ideas for backing up a project? Seems like the project got corrupted and all the snapshots also had MIDI deleted.

Maybe using the files app, copy and paste the project in a backup folder?

Use Files app. I periodically back projects up ever since a mishap a couple of years ago. You can also just duplicate projects. I find Files app reliable for this.

I don’t trust Auria’s Save As/Save a Copy . I’ve run into some problems after using it. I am not 100% sure that was the source of the issue but it was the common thread in two disasters that resulted in lost audio tracks that I had to reconstruct.

I couldn’t get wavemachinelabs interested in figuring out the issue.

There may be something with the Save A Copy function.
I wanted to bounce the MIDI tracks to Audio, but I wanted to keep a project file with MIDI, and start a new project file with just audio. To make the audio project to start mixing, I used Save A Copy, and renamed by putting "MIX" in front of the project name. So now I had in the Aurio Pro folder:

Ambient 1 in F Sharp Minor (only MIDI tracks)
MIX Ambient 1 in F Sharp Minor (save as copy, not bounced to Audio yet)

Then on the MIX project, I used bounce in place on all the MIDI tracks.

Later, while mixing, I heard something in one of the audio tracks that I wanted to fix, and wanted to go back to the MIDI project to tweak something. That's when I found the MIDI data had been corrupted/deleted.

I'll use the files app from here on out...seems safer.

What happened to you is similar to what happened to me with audio tracks.

I believe that Auria’s save a copy as sometimes results in the new file referencing things in the old file.

I couldn’t get traction with @WaveMachineLabs when it happened :(

  • I still use Auria but avoid save a copy as

  • Good to know - I've been using Save A Copy for years without issues, but I will duplicate projects with the Files app in future to avoid any potential gremlins.

I was in the same boat as you until this one project last spring. Fortunately, the audio files themselves weren't lost, just the edits and takes in the project window.
