One midi controller with multiple apps/sounds
I surprisingly couldn't find this by searching the forum but I was wondering what the best way to use a single midi controller keyboard for use with multiple apps/sounds is. I'm only have a single midi keyboard but I want to be able to switch between which apps use the midi signal smoothly and quickly so I can use it in live looping situations.
To be more specific, I'm wanting to use my keyboard to get a vocoder effect with my mic in voice synth, but then I immediately want to be able to loop some other instruments sounds in music studio. Thanks in advance for the help.

I was thinking the best way to do this is if audiobus had a bypass feature?
AB only does Audio (or did I miss something in the last update?). Depending on your keyboard and thw Apps you want to control, one possibility is to set the Apps to different midi channels (not always possible) and switch the channel on your keyboard to control the appropriate App. Another approach would be to use something like MidiBridge to either split your keyboard midi mapping or to have it remap to different channels to send to the Apps.
Or, try using MidiFlow. It lets you map different parts of your keyboard to different MIDI instruments
@jcb08j I'm not sure if this is what you're asking for but any midi controller with fast-switchable midi channel should give you exactly that. For example I'm using akai mpk mini which sends on 4 midi channels and you can quickly select the channel you want by pressing program button (just like shift on a pc) and then one of the keyboard keys that double as channel selectors. So, if you have 4 different synths running within audiobus you can set them to listen on separate channels 1-4. You'll configure your voice synth to work within audiobus as you would normally and this should work. There's other ways of doing it using program change midi messages that allow you to change patches within one synth but that wouldn't work if you have it hooked up to the vocoder. Sorry for the confusing answer, it's still am in the uk. Hope it makes sense.
If you can do it the midi channel way, that's the way. If not, you may be able to set up two routes in audiobus and then put an effect in the filter slot that has a MIDI controllable mute button. I think the AUFX apps will do it.
The MIDI Flow option could be a good alternative if your controller has octave buttons but no quick MIDI Channel changing buttons.
as far as I know my controller does not have the quick channel switch option. I'm a little in the dark in terms of how to control the midi channel my controller is coming in through because it's a usb hook up and I'm also running a usb connected audio interface with midi hook ups at the same time. My controller is an M-Audio Oxygen 49 if that provides any info.
If it's not possible I'll try the AUFX method. The octave mapping is a good idea but if possible I'd like to have a full range for each synth/vocoder.
Looking at a photo of it, looks like the lowest G key allows you to set the Global Channel. Look that up in your manual; I'm guessing that'll be the ticket.
But it's not a quick switch. Once you're in the channel select mode, you still have to hit the +/- keys and hit enter. I think it might be best using MidiBridge to remap a CC key to PC.
Reading the manual ,there is a way: press "SELECT" button so the LED shows "Glob".Then the DATA +/- buttons will change the Global MIDI Channel that the Oxygen controller is transmitting
on. (page 9)
Looks like it supports presets. Maybe a few different presets with the same controls but different midi channels?
In case you haven't already got it, MIDI Monitor is a free app that will show you exactly what MIDI signals are coming from your keyboard.
Yeah I just saw that in the manual. Worst case scenario I'll have to switch the channel by switching to global and then pressing the +/- keys to get to the right channel. I'm just hoping all the apps I want to use allow me to set the midi input channel.
@thatsRayor I'm going to download that now, that will definitely help. Thanks!
I have an axiom 49 and I use presets set to different channels. Works great.

You should check iMIDIPatchbay (imidipatchbay.com). You can create different MIDI configurations and save them as songs, which you can recall later.
