Koala with Off Grid midi controller
Received my Offgrid midi controller today, little confused on using it, have read the online 'guide' but still have issues.
In Koala midi mapping, the first 16 pads map perfect, you go up an octave for the next page but the first 4 pads overwrite the last 4. So it seems moving up and down octave only moves 12 pads? I found the drum and scale modes but no combination moves the octave the full 16.
There are many people using with Koala so surely I'm missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Comments
Some controllers use 'banks' of pads so you would have access to 64 notes with 4 banks of 16 pads -- it looks like OffGrid only shifts up by an octave, 12 notes. Great for some instruments but a bummer in this use case. That's just as far as I can tell looking at their online help.
You could use another app to shift the MIDI signal from OffGrid up by a full 16 - Host Koala in Drambo or AUM, and use either Drambo's internal Midi Transpose module or AUM's midi setting transpose for the input to transpose the midi when you need. Not ideal obviously.
Also, I don’t know how you use or plan on using Koala, but last I tried, Koala’s sequencer only records Koala’s own screen pad presses, not anything triggering the pads such as a controller. But I haven’t been using Koala since lots of updates. That may have changed?
Did you know there’s now a desktop editor for the Offgrid? I think with that you could programme the pads as you want. If that’s news and you want to know where to find it, reply and I’ll find the link - I think it’s web based, but I can’t entirely remember.
I can't find any editors online, only the online firmware flasher. Do you happen to have that link @steve99? Thanks
This is interesting to know as I was considering buying an Offgrid to use with Koala amongst other apps.
I’ll put the idea on hold for the moment.
I found an email from them that says:
WebApp Editor
We're ready to deploy the long-awaited WebApp Editor (Beta) to registered users - please register your unit here.
And this should work as a link (?).
https://offgrid.birdkids.io/?mc_cid=5b252ebdd0&mc_eid=06ba18e9d0#/register
It takes you to a ‘registration’ page where you pair the offgrid with your computer. I’m not at my computer now and neither do I have my offgrid to hand, so can’t tell you what happens if you’ve already registered - I suspect that, as this is a beta, you just pair it each time you want to connect to the editor.
Hope that helps. I’ll have another go myself at the weekend and further refresh my memory.
EDIT: can’t get to it on my phone, so I think definitely need a computer.
There’s a setting to let midi record pads.
That changed long ago. (I don't recall there being a time when playing the pads by MIDI didn't get recorded into sequences -- but in any case it has worked for quite a while)
Thank You! This worked perfect, registered for an account, connected to laptop via USB and (among many other options) there is a toggle for how many semitones, changed this from 12 to 16 and I now have full 16 pads for mapping on each page.
Hopefully this thread will help others trying to do this, thanks all for the help.
Hello everybody.
Sorry for being late, but Offgrid works perfectly with Koala/MPCstyle apps out of the box.
You can choose different pesets for the pads.1. Scale (changes in octaves/12 pads) 2. Drum Mode (changes 16 Pads), Expression Mode and MPE Mode (the last two are scales too).
Here is a nice tutorial how to map Offgrid with Koala (Video is not from me).

One more Video with better explanation of the different play modes (as found on YT,not my Video).
I love my Offgrid!

I saw this before I posted but it didn't work for me. No matter which preset I'm in it always only moved 12 pads. One thing I noticed that was different to my unit to the video, when holding the selector button, all my pads don't light up like the video, for me only 2 pads light up (the 1st and 3rd pads). When I press pad 2 to select drum mode, it flashes as if its selected but still acts exactly as any other preset. Maybe I have a faulty unit? Firmware update to latest was the first thing I did before even trying it.
Either way the editor did the job nicely
Oh, sorry…that sounds strange. Nice that the editor did. the job!
