Controle volume level

edited June 2022 in General App Discussion

Ok, so I got this stab/pluck in a track, but when tweaking my synth knobs/cutoff to change the sound color it introduces unwanted volume level differences. A low cutoff setting has a perfect volume level, but when raising the cutoff the sound becomes too loud and hot. (Sorry for this shitty English explanation).
I am looking for an auv3 I can put in the chain that keeps the volume level at the same db all the time. Something I can set the min/max db setting. Is FAC Maxima suitable for this? http://fredantoncorvest.com/FAC_Maxima.html
Or alternatives?

  • Any compressor can do that.
    Au3fx:Push is an alternative option.
You might also try to lower the resonance of the filter,
while you open up the filter cutoff.

  • Roughrider 3 is free.
You can try that for limiting and compressing.

  • Good tips, thank you both.
I am still building my fx collection, there are some holes in my collection like compression and reverbs. I am saving for the MagicDeathEye compressor, but somehow I always end up spending money on another delay or so :) I’ll check out the freeware for the time being.

  • Yes compressors with fast attack will squash the transients. Best not set to zero when using big ratios to avoid clicks or pops.
Something designed outside the typical comps and lims is Maze Rider to keep same volume by compensating during drops and peaks.

This is exactly the app I was looking for, had seen it before but forgot it’s name. Been messing around with the free Roughrider, but not overly happy with the results (sound color) so far. Thank you for the link!

+1 for Maze Rider. It is designed specifically for this.
