Pro 11" M1 vs Pro 10,5" - Comparison of the sound from built-in speakers
Hi everyone,
2 days ago I changed the iPad 10,5" from 2017 to the iPad Pro 11" M1 from 2021. Unfortunately to my surprise the sound from the built-in speakers for my ear is worse. I compared the same songs from Garagebad. At 10,5" the sound is juicy. On the M1 the sound is muffled, it has more bass, but in general I do not like it for now. The drums sound like someone is banging on cardboard boxes. Dynamic music seems to sound without energy. Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but these are my feelings at this moment.
Does anyone feel the same / similar or is it something wrong with me? I have a hearing loss in the high tones, maybe that's why I perceive it not as the Apple forced it. Probably the construction of the new speakers forces a different sound. At the same time I'm very happy with the sound from 10,5".
Is there a chance to globally change the equlizer in iOS and raise the high tones for each app in general or do I have to stay with that? For the "Apple Music" app I can change the sound parameters, including the equalizer in the iOS settings, but unfortunately I think only for that app. Is there some workaround without need of jailbreak to "fix" that?
I have no possibility to compare with the iPad Pro 11" from 2018 and 2020, but maybe with the change of the housing, the sound from the speakers has changed starting from 2018. I compared only with iPad Pro 12.9" M1 from 2021 and for my ears situation is the same. On 12.9" the sound is depper and louder, but it is muffled as well, missing high tones. I hope I will get used to it over time and will like the new sound someday.
I know I can connect headphones (via adapter - which I do not have yet) or a music interface (which I do not have yet too), but I listen to a lot directly from iPad and in this thread I would like to focus mainly on the built-in speakers. Thanks in advance for your insights.

Have you tried it in different 'orientations', ie. flat on the table, slightly raised up (using smart cover or similar) or standing up (also using smart cover). I ask this since my iPad Air 2's battery is about to give up soon and I'm looking at the 11" M1 iPadPro...
The 'sound character' of my iPad Air 2 changes considerably depending on its orientation.
I wouldn’t say something is wrong with you, but the speakers on my 2021 11” M1 Pro are easily the best I’ve heard in any of the iPads owned. Way better imaging and low end, and not as harsh on the high end at louder volumes.
Likely it’s just sounding weird to you because you’re not used to it, give it some time and try a few different apps and songs and I bet you’ll be a fan in no time.
