Which convolution reverb ships with good selection of real spaces IRs

So yeah, I'm interested in reverbs of real spaces and places, halls, cathedrals, rooms and stuff. Not so much in vintage gear IRs to be honest. Which AUv3 convolution reverb offers a better selection of natural IRs ?
Or alternatively, where should I look for good (and cheap o:) ) IR packs as I've already own Thafknar.
Cheers.

  • Well, AltiSpace 2 is on sale, and it offers a huge selection of these, but they are created from famous vintage reverb equipment..

I think most of the IR apps ship with a similar collection of public domain IRs. Did your download all the extra ones for THAFKNAR?

There are a few free IR libraries linked to from this wiki page:

  • Just get any convolution reverb which allows you to import your own. I like IMPULSation on iOS, but don’t use it on desktop. I usually just revert to the available reverbs in GarageBand or use Toneboosters’ reverb instead.

  • Klevgrand’s Rum is a collection of real spaces.

  • Don’t pass over AltiSpace 2 so quickly… it has spaces AND vintage equipment IR’s. The sound design and gui are excellent… Igor Vasiliev of the *scaper Apps. On a Summer Sale.

Thafnar is close for features but you have to hunt down IR’s. It does true stereo as I recall,

    INPULsation might be on sale.

    +1 Altispace 2.
    Great presets, really good sounding.
I’m a reverb noob. I don’t get the subtleties, I just know if I like it or not, and I usually like them if they sound like a natural space or are extremely weird. Altispace has plenty of both.

Dont the tails of the library IR’s cut off somewhat suddenly in Altispace? Haven’t used it in a while but I seem to remember them being unnecessarily truncated. I also found importing large libraries and organizing them difficult. Wacky things seemed to happen. I was new to the iOS platform at the time and ended up going with IMPULsation. It was pretty hassle-free.

  • Altispace 2 "Added a parameter that sets the fade out point for a smooth end of the impulse response. "

    It's on sale for $4.

I think what you are remembering is that Altispace had a limit to the length of tails that could be imported. If you imported a file longer than that limit then you wouldn't get the full tail. That only applied to relatively long files. Altispace 2's max IR time is 15 seconds. That is pretty long -- but not long enough for some cool spaces. It is one of the reasons that I use THAFKNAR -- as I have some 20 to 30 second IRs that I like a lot.

  • Thanks @Slush , @NeuM , @McD , @tahiche , @BirbHope !
Indeed these are my main options
    -altispace 2 (currently on sale)
    -impulsation (currently on sale)
-or collect my own IR library for Thafknar

@espiegel123 thank you, that was a great read and I grabbed 2 packs from download section.
@richardyot rum sounds quite natural from brief view, I like the sound but probably it’s not the app I’m looking for at the moment.
@bobbyj8866 magicverb sounds great and that graphic UI is insane, but out of my price range at the moment.

Did you already download the several IR libs that come with THAFKNAR? Impulsation and Altispace may draw from a similar pool of public domain IRs.

You might be right about that, but I was able to supplement the existing IMPULSation library with dozens of other free IRs that I found. Tons of acoustic spaces to choose from.

Actually I just downloaded it and the ones from the built in library that I just tried still do it. They go along, start trailing and then boop, gone. It might be legacy files from those early days. I do know that if I load in IR’s fresh, there is no truncation. Sounds fine.
I remember I got this far when I was first trying it. But then I tried to import other libraries and would try to rename them so I could organize them (you cant import folders made by the original creators so you have to import the actual individual files and reorganize) and it would appear to work but then they would later disappear or partially disappear. Or at least no longer show up in the file menu. After what I considered too much wasted effort I got frustrated and didn't care at that point if it was user error or the app and moved on to IMPULSation.

Which parameter? The “len/fade” dial? I just tried it. It’s not so smooth actually. It just makes the existing files even shorter when applied. They may have been even more abrupt in its earlier iterations and the same effect applied to those because it sounds like the same fade. Like a 10 ms decay time at the end. The dial allows you to choose a point to apply it. If it isn't sufficiently far enough into the original tail its really noticeable. This is what I hear on the stock library files.

As it seems to turn out often enough these days since my forray into iOS music it could be pilot error. But I didnt have these problems with IMPULSation and Im old now and life is short.

Yes, I have them. Some good verbs in those libs for sure.

Also I found this link (it was mentioned on Altispace 2 homepage as a source of free IRs)

Great! That library was unavailable for several years. I am glad to discover that it’s back.
