Vs Visual Synth $3.99! One day only 6/19/22

Sorry @Poppadocrock i felt this deserves special noting. I never would have bought this for $20 since A/ I’m so tech averse and B/ I love visuals but never felt I could make something as good visually as musically. But for $4 wtf, you know? I’m sure there are many in the same boat as me, hence the post of a rare opportunity to get this for messing around on a dark and lonely night while the storm rages outside. Brrr!

So, now what do I do? Feed a track into the “stick it here” slot and start twizzling until the visual hamburger comes out the other end?

Thank you for making a separate thread :D

I came to talk about this, too. There is another tool that you can get (for free, I think) called NDI HX Capture. This allows you to stream the video from your iPad across your network to other devices that are capable of receiving NDI signals. As a visualist (I do projection mapping using Resolume Arena) I can output VS into my composition and tweak it further with GPU rendered effects; layer it with more generators. I’m pretty damned slow on making some things, but eventually one day I will record and demonstrate what I’m talking about 😅😆

    Edit: VS outputs NDI directly!!

  • Move over in that boat @LinearLineman … just bought, price of a cup of coffee blah, blah!

  • I also just bought it am about to see if I can work out how to operate it!

  • That's an instant purchase for me!

  • Can you do everything with the iOS version that you can with the desktop version? Not something I would buy normally, and may remain unused into the distant future, but for $3.99 I like the optionality if I did want to play at some future date ... if the iOS version is not crippled in any way. Is it just a workflow difference?

  • My sentiments exactly @LinearLineman - 80% off is a no brainer

  • This is the one I was looking forward to. Already had all the others, besides LK which I now own. But I’ve always had my eye on this one. Excited to dive into it.

It's very resource-intensive, so a good desktop PC can probably run it at a higher resolution and framerate, and leave more room for synths and effects. I'm looking forward to using it on PC, because I feel like VS benefits from using more power than my 2017 iPad Pro or 2020 iPhone SE can provide. It seems to fit naturally with complex sound design, and having 50 lanes of CC data modulating every parameter.

  • Thanks that is very informative. I also found this comment on reddit about the desktop version.

Just seems like another rabbit hole, but $4 today for perhaps a day's or week's worth of entertainment a year in the future is a tempting proposition. Definitely a hard pass on the desktop version.

  • @kidslow Thanks for sharing that Reddit thread. Those are fair points, but I also agree with the top response, saying that it's better to activate it with MIDI anyway. I'd like to learn this style of programming, and make videos that don't involve flashing images.

  • I think I will wait for the 80% off on the 80% off price... What? $4? OK. I'm in. This completes my Imaginando collection and I was waiting all week for this one. I did pass on completing the FRMS IAP's for $1 each but I already had the ones I liked from the demo's.

I hope we use one of these threads for sharing Tips and Tricks, Lessons Learned from this new army of videographers that purchase today.

  • I am going to pass on the GAS. Even at $4. Not compelled to use it on the ipad. On the desktop, would give projectM a whirl if I need to scratch a visualization itch.
