Ravenscroft 275 Piano by UVI - It's Still a Beautiful Thing - 2022 Review & Demo for the iPad

Just wanted to show the lovely Ravenscroft 275 Piano some love and attention.
Still one of the best-sounding iOS Pianos, and it's also AUv3, although I am playing it in standalone mode with no added effects or processing.

  • Oh yes, for me it is still the best piano on iOS. I play it every day. I have a lot of other good ones (including Pure Piano and Ivory) but I always end up with Ravenscroft for its unique resonating qualities, giving me the true feeling of playing a real acoustic grand (well, almost…). Only half pedaling is really missing.
Also, a little bug whenever you modify the « timbre » parameter with negative values : the release time is not compensated correctly for non dampened high notes, so the sound drops instantly after release (more explanations for those interested).

  • I have come to use PurePiano more often than Ravenscroft. I’ve come to appreciate the more mellow tonality (I know, EQ EQ) but there is a characteristic difference in their nature’s, IMO.

The string resonance would be a great addition to PurePiano, but, for me, it’s not a deal breaker.
Thatks not to say I don’t use Ravenscroft, even in tandem with Ravenscroft.or that I won’t switch back. They’re both great by iOS standards. You can’t objectively say one is better than the other, especially since pianos sound different in different genres and contexts. I mean, even pianists who can afford it will own a Steinway and a Bosendorfer.

What’s your thoughts on the Model D in Numa? I prefer Pure Piano the most as well but I’ve found that one to be my second favorite. Granted I haven’t used Ravenscroft yet. Crazy that it’s free.

  • @HotStrange i like the Numa D but never used it again. Terrific for no cost.

Yes, you are right. I should not say Ravenscroft is the best. It is just I enjoy it a little more when I play it. Pure Piano sounds tremendous however, with a very delicate tone.

Honestly the entire app is full of fantastic sounds for the price. Love that they included a couple of sounds from the Sledge as well.
