I’m searching for a mpc style midi pads for a dedicated app

Hey guys, I’m wondering if there are any dedicated midi controllers with mpc style pads that I could change sounds and scales from the controller, something like how the push in ableton has a fixed scale on the pads. I like the presonus atom but there is no way of changing the scale on the pads or any octave up and down buttons. The nano key studio has a scale mode but I much prefer the layout of the push pads for scales, it makes sense to me being a guitar player where I can see the scales. And it would be great to have dedicated buttons to change tracks or sounds like on an mpc

  • Launchpad ProXL?

  • Grid Instrument maybe. Midi pads if you want just pads. SDS X has the best pads on iPad

  • Novation Launchpad X would be my recommendation. The Launchpad X Pro would also be a great one.

Definitely Launchpad Pro MK3, I love mine!
LPP definitely has scales, chords and all that good stuff.
Only caveat is that LPP has more sensitive pads than Akai, so if you prefer stiffer pads take a look at the Akai APC40 MKII.

  • Impc Pro 2

  • Thanks guys I’ve ordered the launchpad pro mk3, can’t wait to see if it fits into my workflow. Any suggestions on live looping apps for midi? I’m using loopy pro which is freakin awesome but I’d love to incorporate a midi clip flow (I think midi clips is on Micheals road map will take loopy to next level!) I’m looking for something that has awesome sounds like BeatHawk but an app that accepts midi cc’s to change patterns and tracks so I can make buttons in loopy to control it…otherwise when I get my launchpad I can probs set up custom buttons to do this.

Sounds like Gadget 2 to me. It's even built using the same JUCE framework as Beathawk.
What I'd say is to get the Korg Nanokontrol2. A friend of mine uses this controller a lot. He also uses it with Koala Sampler.

    Here's a video he did...

It doesn’t seem to support impc pro natively, I think you need to set up pads via midi learn.

I use to use gadget but was never inspired by the sounds, I haven’t checked it for ages, have they got decent sound packs now?

it depends on what you are looking for. It has samplers...so you can use your own samples. IMO, Korg Odyssei is the best-sounding virtual analog on iOS (the name inside gadget is something else). Korg Mono/Poly (also usable in Gadget) is also a great synth. By those outside of Gadget and you can use them standalone or in Gadget...if you get them as Gadget IAPs, you can't use them standalone.

Thanks man, I just checked it out again, the integration of Korg module has me sold, amazing sounds in korg module!

iMPC Pro (2) definitely supports the Akai Element natively:

Integeration is complete (note repeat, bank change, full level, 16 level, track change, transport, record, overdub etc) and the pads have the full-on Akai MPC feel, with colored lights and everything…

If you want you can get into pad assignment (if you want the pads to play chromatically) but as is the assignment is traditional.

There’s a trick to plugging the thing in that gets around the “…iPad doesn’t support this hardware…” pop up, and lets the controller draw iPad power. There is a YouTube that shows how.

I don’t think the iMPC Pro 2 app gets much love on the forum, and the Element is an obscure piece of hardware, but I’ve had tons of fun with both.
