Review of the Centrance Mixerface R4R - Nice little portable recorder to pair with iOS!

Thanks again to @CapnWillie and @ipadbeatmaking for turning me on to this little device. Loving this thing.

  • Actually they already have a usb-c version of the mixerface with a bunch of other upgrades like more gain and better headphone amps. The preamps are fabulous and it's a rugged, compact box. It actually does surprising well handholding while field recording - very little handling noise. The iPad interface works great and is really easy to monitor the mix coming back into the mixerface. The only cons for me are: (1) set sampling rates for field recording (unless hooked to an interface) (2) Proper metering - just had a signal and hot light. (3) the recessed switches that require a tool or toothpick to change in the field. Otherwise it sounds great.

  • I thought I saw a USB C model on the site once but missed it when going back to check the specs. Great to know. Definitely upgrading. I would imagine there’s no difference in sound quality but having less cables and quicker charging is worth it for me.

Actually there are some nice upgrades. Bit more gain and better headphone preamps as well. They also added a stereo/mono knob. Yes, USB C just makes things easier.

  • Good to know, I hadn’t seen the USB C version when looking into this!
