Cubasis 3 / Beatmaker 3 tempo automation using Link and AUM tempo presets (edit: or Loopy Pro AU !!)

edited July 2022 in App Tips and Tricks

As title suggests, nice workaround which will make some of us very happy :)

Just create DAW midi parts with individual midi notes routed to AUM to trigger tempo presets with Link enabled in both apps!!

Certainly! Something similar (and a more continuous tempo change) can be achieved with an Ableton linked Loopy Pro AU with a MIDI controlled (CCs) session tempo change widget in it.

    edit: link to video
of course you can also achieve tempo jumps this way

@prtr_jan nice idea thanks!!! Loopy Pro AU is even better and state saved in DAW, didn’t know it could be Linked. I found that CC values are more difficult to use to set specific tempo value here so midi notes and assign tempo widgets is the other option. Works quite well here. It really depend on specific musical needs, nice to have progressive CC too.

Yes. Continuous tempo change with CCs is not always perfect. Can be a bit jumpy sometimes but enough for my needs. If the range within which (is that good English?) you change the tempo's is rather small, it's smoother.

  • I can't get this to work and I don't understand why.

I setup tempo presets (to notes on Channel 1) in a blank AUM session, and enabled Link.
I've enabled link in Cubasis too, created a no instrument track with output to Aum on Channel 1 and generated the midi notes in Cubasis.
Link is working in both directions if I change the tempo manually in AUM or Cubasis.

But I can't get Cubasis to change tempo in AUM when playing the notes.

So, please can you take a picture of AUM midi control mappings and post it here?
    I must be missing something...

Why don’t you post screen shots of your midi control routing and your tempo presets.

Have you confirmed that AUM is receiving the notes?

  • I decided to confirm AUM receiving the notes as suggested, and it was, but an octave higher than what I entered in Cubasis editor. I have no idea why. But if I send a C1 from Cubasis this maps to a C2 in AUM and it worked for me. I can't see anywhere that I've set transpose, so a mystery...

  • ... and I've just recorded a tempo track in Cubasis!!!!
Using my Mozaic tempo script (using pitchbend) as a 'Midi effect', I set it to RW, pressed play, and twiddled around with the BPM knob in Mozaic. It recorded it all and repeats on playback.
This is momentus for Cubasis users, and I'll create a separate thread with step by step instructions.

Octave numbering has no standard. Apps and synths often use different numbering. Some apps call middle C (midi note 60) C3 and some C4. Some even call it c5 , though that is rare

  • I’m struggling to get the MIDI to change tempo in loopy pro. Can anyone help or point me to instructions on this please. I’ve linked everything and created the MIDI notes in Cubase. They are sending to loopy I’m just not sure how to get them to trigger the tempo change.

What tempo change are you trying to send?

Loopy has an Adjust Tempo action. You could create a midi binding or widget to activate it…or are you trying to have Cubasis and Loopy Pro stay automatically synched to the same tempo?

If you are sending notes to loopy to change tempo, did you set up midi bindings in loopy for them?
