OK to keep some gear on all the time?
Currently, I turn off all my gear after a session of music-making. That includes:
- PA monitors
- Synths
- Drum machine
- Digital keyboard
- Mixer / recorder
Except, of course, my phone and iPad if I'm using that.
For a long time, I've viewed setup time as one of the killers of impulses to practice or make music. Life would be simpler to leave some stuff on, especially the PA monitors. But it seems incautious or reckless to leave these guys running.
Any thoughts?

It is getting more and more expensive to let devices run…And please think about climate change!
This is one of the many reasons using an iPad to create is so easy and time efficient. Everything stays in the iOS environment until I need to do a final mix on desktop.
I don't know if your electric bill will rise too fast, probably not. Running a vacuum cleaner, oven or a microwave uses a lot more. And gear even uses power when switched off, the power bricks do this.
I think LED and LCD screens of gear will wear faster or die when always turned on. That is a reason for me to turn stuff off.
I turn off Maschine (which acts as an audio interface on the computer) when not using it as the LED screens are lit up otherwise. Thankfully I can just switch it on and driver re-establishes itself and I dont have to reboot the computer.
Have you considered running them off a smart plug (or plugs)? That way you could turn everything on or off from one action on your phone. I control my chargers and my office lights that way - you can even turn everything on or off from another room.
Or use power strips. Turn them on and off with each session. Takes seconds.
Thanks for the comments, folks. In fact, power strips are one thing I’ve been using. I use Google voice devices for other things in the house, and maybe I could use a Google smart plug or two for music gear.
