Best piano lesson app?

Looking for a good piano lesson app. Using an external midi keyboard. Any suggestions?

  • Synthesia is very well regarded: https://itunes.apple.com/app/synthesia/id579518445?mt=8

They also have Windows and Mac versions. Website: http://www.synthesiagame.com/

  • Synthesia is great. Midi import with IAP.

  • Shouldve mentioned, looking for something on iphone. Synthesia is ipad only.

  • Checkout 50in1 Piano

  • This might interest you. It says iphone compatible. The Piano :3D, has some IAPS I think. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/piano-3d-all-in-one-piano/id771068869?mt=8

  • Anyone know of a piano lesson app that can be used as a companion with a real piano? Seems that Synthesia wants you to practice on the ipad.

  • Synthesia works with MIDI keyboards.

  • Harmony Wizard, new app. It helps you to play some lush chords. Free with IAPs. This is a super app.

  • I just took a look at Harmony Wizard. I like it. Although I'm not crazy about the interface I could live with it. What I really dislike is having to subscribe to a chord library with a monthly or semi-yearly charge. $2 a month for a library of jazz chords? Another $2 a month for gospel chords? Yet another $2 a month for smooth gospel chords? I'll skip for now.

  • SightReadPlus is great. As long as you can find middle C on a piano you can use this app to intuitively guide yourself in learning piano. It works with acoustic piano or keyboard -- no wires or cables needed. Midi will be supported with the next update. It works with iPad.

  • Synthesia updated:

    What's New in Version 10

    • Unlocked users can visit the Free Play area to experiment with notes, instruments, and chords.

    • Split single part songs into left and right hand using the new track splitting tool.

    • See the next song loop before it starts! No more sudden jumps.

    • Recently played songs are now shown on the title screen for quick navigation.

    • Tap near the right side of the keyboard, then drag the slider to hide the keyboard.

    • Shortcuts can now use the piano pedal as a modifier. For example, you can assign "pedal + lowest note" to rewind the song by one measure.

    • New "Tangerine" color theme.

    • Dozens more major improvements.

Does anyone have kids that are into Synthesia? It seems like an odd way to learn piano... like it would turn the piano into a 88-key game controller, making it only about hitting the right buttons at the right time to get a high score...

I guess I'm worried it would create all technique/ no passion type of piano playing, especially for kids who don't have much other musical experience. ...

    You're probbaly right.

I like this one too (50in1 Piano HD): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id413055635?mt=8

What I can propose from my experience: try to look for the online course so you can take lessons in your own phase. I’m talking not only about the level but also the timing. But you need to be self-motivated enough to proceed.
If you need a specific recommendation, I would like to suggest checking online piano classes latouchemusicale. For me, learning and playing the piano online was easy and fun. Basically, you need a piano tutor or piano music sheet. You can play on your own. The cool thing is that you can choose famous compositions to play.
I don’t know if that helps you, but at least you can try something new. Hope that could be inspiring!
    Good luck!
