Gavinski - Soundscape #1 (See Pinned Comment for Workflow & App Info)

Eerie soundscape with vintage vocal snatches made entirely on iOS, using AUM as a host. For those who like drones, old radio broadcasts, bell sounds and a more experimental vibe. At the time of posting my video from yesterday still has an open giveaway of 5 copies of the Gamelan Gender app which I use extensively In the current vid.

Pinned comment has full details of workflow and links to vids on the majority of the apps used.

This weekend will be insane busy
but for next week you really inspired me to experiment with some setups after reading your workflow

Glad to hear people are actually reading those pins and finding them useful!

  • Intense stuff in that man 😊

  • It's amazing how adding that bit of processed dialogue spiced it up

  • Liked that so much, Gavin, I bought the gamelan. There are no presets correct? That is one strange gui.

Thanks Mike! Yeah I don't believe there are presets. I would suggest, unless you are actually playing Gamelan, the in-app features are not very important and it is going to be most useable sampled into something like segments, as i did here

  • I see you used PaulXStretch mate. Doesn't it produce an amazing result or what?!

And I'm so happy you're digging into soundscaping. This piece is definitely right up my alley and very well done. ❤️

  • Hi Gavinski,
    This is awesome.
I think I can understand the chatter, just kidding.
This is a trip, and I am digging it.
    Nicely done.

Thanks haha. Yeah the chatter is intentionally obscured at times, partly to add dynamics but also to make it a bit trippier / make the listener work a bit 😝

PaulXstretch is great. I also seriously recommend Audiostretch. They have a very different sound and Audiostretch seems more likely to produce good results when tweaked live whereas with PaulXstretch I tend to set it and forget it for the most part. Audiostretch lite (free) allows you to import up to 3 mins of audio if i remember. The downside is that neither it nor the paid version are AUv3 🤷‍♂️. I still need to play more with the harmonics etc features of paulxstretch, and it blows my mind it is a free app

Ah, the other features are great. Like, you need to learn what they do in theory, but you don't need to know exactly how they affect sound to experiment with them. I'm still trying to figure out Thermo Synth, but at least I can tweak knobs as if I knew what I was doing and produce some sort of useful noise, lol. PaulXStretch is more user-friendly. 😉

I'll check Audiostretch out. I usually use PaulXStretch in standalone mode, so Audiostretch not having AUv3 is no real hindrance to my creative workflow. ☺️

  • At times with those strange garbled voices and spooky metallic background, I felt like Travis Walton! 👽🛸🤣 Very trippy. Nice work 👍

  • I had to look him up @Spidericemidas lol. Well I might just have to throw some anal probe sound effects into the next one now, so if anyone has any lying around in their sample collection (or indeed fancies making some from scratch 🤔) feel free to throw them my way.

    😅
Really? Then you should check out the movie “Fire in the Sky”. Your track would have been the ideal background for the abduction scene.

Hmm. I’ll check my audioshare files. Can’t promise anything though. Could be a fun sound design project...🤣

A bit different from your usual atmospheric pads alright, 😝

  • Very nice, not normally a fan of spoken words over music but I think the mangled nature of the vocals worked for me.
Also love it when somebody posts #1 against something giving the promise of more to come 🙂

Oh definitely not short of ideas haha, thanks though Jim. Just the next thing on my to-do list is some kind of vid related to Scaler 2.

That sounds promising. :) I was on the verge of purchasing Scaler 2, but I realised that all it would do is help me write mundane tonal everyday music rather than anything I'm into these days. 😂 Yeah that's pretty egotistical of me to say, but fuck it. I love what I love, lol. Best of luck making that video mate. I hope it helps others make what they love. 😃
