Looper for DRAMBO

Hello folks.

I am looking for a way of recording/looping a jam I get going in drambo. I like to improvise, but id love to loop what I have playing, then mangle that a bit and make changes to it.

What's the best way of doing this? Maybe Loopy Pro? Can you warp and mangle your loops with loopy pro whilst keeping the tempo going etc? I'd LOVE to loop my jam, leave the loop running whilst I make changes to the original music I had originally looped.

Hope this made sense folks!

What sort of warping and mangling do you have in mind? It is possible that something like Koala might be more of a mangler when used as an AU...that is one of its strengths.

Interesting, can I (cant try now as I am at work) Put Koala sampler in my master track and record my entire jam?

  • Maybe I’m misunderstanding but it seems to me Drambo has plenty of looping options and mangling options: the morph slider being the one that comes to mind. And you can always engage the auto loop length so you can play and record for as long as you need without thinking about it. 🤷‍♂️

I meant more like capturing the audio from a complete jam, stopping everything else - messing around with that recording, then gradually bringing new instruments and music in? Is this what you meant? (bit of a drambo beginner here)

You can Rec an entire session from within dRambo.
Tap Rec (looks like two circles with a joining bit) which is next to Tempo.
Go to Master Track and press arm Rec.

From the moment you hit Transport Start you will be recording.

You could arm record all of the tracks but for
beginners purposes use only the Master Track for now.
You can find the recordings using "Files" in the Settings menu.

Is this something I could do on the fly, without stopping the overall track?

Flexi Sampler is the loop recorder.
It can record in sync with bars, play back in sync and you can basically have as many Flexis as you like in your project.

From my experience it's better to sketch out your own idea of the perfect looper before trying to find out "what's possible".

Ah, I messed around with flexi sampler in this context but couldn't quite get my head around it. I will try this again later and see what results I can yield, innit

This way is for the stems.

  • Loopy Pro is perfect in Drambo, much better than trying kludgy workarounds with Drambo’s own tools. I use it all the time.

I agree as regards pure looping, but maybe not so much for the stated purpose of mangling loops. Flexi Sampler is excellent for that.

Good point. One loopy pro tip is that you can auto-slice a loop and play the slices from a grid controller (one of Loopy’s controller unit thingies).

Oh this is cool I didn't realise that you could send
midi notes into Loopy Pro to trigger loop slices,
then it's quite easy to put together a custom cv/midi note instrument
in dRambo as an auv3 and send the relevant information through to Loopy Pro.

  • I wish you could send audio from a Drambo (as host) channel to individual loopy clips in the same loopy project/instance.
Drambo Track 1 To Loopy Clip 1
Drambo Track 2 To Loopy Clip 2 etc

    Perhaps this is possible.

-And dragging audio from a donut into flexi and back would be great too

-Doing a form of split screen with auv3 host and auv3 plugin would be nice too, but thats on Apple I guess.

Not yet, but it’s on the Loopy Pro roadmap.

    Yes, that would be sweet.

Both Drambo and Loopy offer floating plugin windows when they’re the host. Isn’t that basically the same thing?

I got loopy and I am very impressed with it. I can't mangle up clips but the ease and speed I can run loops into it is amazing and so much fun! Thanks for the recommendation.

Look at the button grid. It is a simple fun slicer. Set up some xy pads controlling effects. There are features coming later that will increase the mangling possible as an au.

No way?! Damn the fact I have to work right now! Will be checking that later!

  • There’s a bunch of community made loopers for Drambo on patchstorage. This is one of my favs:

    https://patchstorage.com/shards/

  • @Nasatyuana fwiw, based on your inquiry, this is how i generally use FlexiSampler to
Capture Loops that i am playing in Drambo.

    So much fun:
