So, half of Canada’s Internet, Cable, TV, Banks, businesses, etc were down yesterday

So, what did I miss here?

Actually not joking here…one of our major network providers had a major outage that affected the entire nation for the entire day yesterday.

Toronto, Vancouver, etc…we’re all affected.

  • That's a major issue right there.

Has anyone given a reason as to why there was the major outage?

Probably not much more than I missed without service for 7 days, 2 weeks ago.

None so far. And it’s still not fully back on. Mobile internet devices such as phones, iPads, etc aren’t still working.

Thankfully cable got back about 4 hours ago but man, that’s insane.

  • The problem stems from when Canada permitted the telecom sector to buy up content providers instead of focusing on hardware infrastructure and connectivity. Bell and Rogers got into buying up media producers, sports networks and franchises. If you are spending on hockey teams, publishing empires, and other distractions, you aren't spending on fibre, switches, servers, and security/reliability systems.

Perhaps those who don’t want to be stuck with the utter mess they’ve been dealt might want to investigate SpaceX satellite-based Internet, Starlink.

  • Luckily, I am in the "other half" in Vancouver, being on the Telus network. Not even a glitch here.

At first.... I laughed out loud because Im a sucker for sick humor. Kept going through the forum drinking my coffee thought about it one more time and said maybe he actually meant it.

    either way
    Cheers!

I'm serious. It's probably a bit more expensive than what Canadians are used to paying, but you'd be free of the garbage heap you have now.

Agreed, it is a bit bonkers.
Still,... good to know everything is back up and running.

  • Another overzealous beaver, like the one in the news recently? 🙂

That event was postponed indefinitely though, right? In any case, it would be "interesting" for the Interpol, or anyone else really, to work together with sanctioned Russian political and financial elite as long as Putin's war continues.

(Or is the theory about revenge for the event not happening?)

I have no idea if it was postponed. Could have been. Weird that it was planned for July 8 and this shit went down here on July 8.
And tbh, I think the fact that the WEF and Klaus Schwab are involved have more to do with why this was re-posted where it was (tongue in cheek or otherwise) than the involvement of Russians.

    Whoa, what happened?

I went on holiday outside a major city in Australia. Outside the major cities there are heaps of locations with poor or no service and I was in a big one.
