Addstation and it’s DSP
hi!
noob here and new to AUM
just got addstation and i freaking love it. just noticed some presets i’ve downloaded increase the DSP by like 50%! whoa. is this something from my end that i can possibly fix or is that just the way it is with this app? also, should i even be worried when my DSP is in the 90% range? i assume so…
ps. does anyone have any recommendations for similar sounding synths with less DSP usage? thanks!

Some patches use more DSP than others. You can increase your host's buffer size to reduce the CPU load.
There's really no wonder why it's 'heavy' on the CPU considering what it does.
Each additive wave-form has 512 partials with each partial having it's dedicated AD envelope and a bunch of other parameters.
It's mind-boggling that it even works as well as it does
It is very heavy on my iPad Air 2 but totally flies on the M1 iPadPro...
+1
Awesome synth.
@drewhino , if you tap on the AUM DSP indicator, you can actually see the processor usage by individual nodes. This makes it easier to evaluate which apps are causing the load.
You MUST worry about DSP when you can hear crackling… and then try increasing the buffer size to fix it. Sometimes you get this large complex of apps and FX’es and then that list of DSP use helps but I use my ears and remove the most expensive (in DSP dollars) to see if it’s getting to the final mix. Sometimes there’s a reverb per track when one on a mix bus would do. Always use your ears and let the meters provide clues when needed because it sounds off.
AddStation is a huge array of computer code paths unlike any piece of analog hardware. It’s pure math gone wild. Some people live it’s ability to emulate sonic chaos predictably.
