Years ago, when my new wife and I arrived from Vietnam, we stayed with my parents in Ohio while we started putting our new life together.

I had been in the army for three and a half years; this was my wife’s first time in the USA. Needless to say, there was much to do and much to learn for both of us.

One humid night, to get a break from the heat, we walked around the bend past Flanigan’s house to a small field overrun with tall summer plants and weeds.

As we walked through the the field, our steps created a path and stirring up clouds of fireflies around us, lighting our way.

Stopping, we looked up and around at the stars above us.

And there just above the tops of the walnut trees, the northern lights were beginning to shimmer, framed by firefly lights.

I think everyone should have a few magical moments in their lifetime. moments that take your breathe away with amazement.

This was one of ours.
