GarageBand with other synths
Would this be a good choice to record my other synths while using GarageBand as a daw

In my opinion, yes.
Are you referring to plugging in hardware, or other software synths? In both cases, it's fairly easy.
Using other music apps that I already have
If GarageBand is brand new to you, I really do recommend you watch some videos for beginners on YouTube, as others have suggested here. Pete Johns is quite good at explaining the basic functions and he has many videos (more videos than a beginner could ever want).
