Generative / Easy Music apps with MIDI export?

I was playing around with Figure and Groovebox today. Came up with some pretty great melodies/loops but surprisingly none of these apps support midi export, only audio stems.

Does anyone know of any other apps of this nature for quick / easy sequencing but also has MIDI export?

For mobile use these types of apps could be great for melody construction on the go..

  • Beatly Pro has been evolving into a great app for this. It will generate unlimited ideas (although in more limited genres compared to Songen or others), has a midi piano role per part that can be freely and easily edited in the app, and recent updates allows you to import your own samples. All midi parts can be exported individually for further development in other editors and to use in any midi environment.

Nice thanks! Just had a play with it, not quite as good as Figure but does have midi export and works great.

Edit: just noticed Beatonal does have a chord player aswell which the others don’t, it looks pretty awesome good shout @BiancaNeve

I have Beatly pro, it’s cool but I can’t seem to get the style I’m looking for (drum n bass, edm, trap, etc). Hopefully they keep expanding it, will revisit the piano roll though, maybe that could work thanks

  • Checkout Songen’s free version. It’s list of genres are
    Afrobeats
    Ambient
    Boom Bap
    Bossa Nova
    Country
    Disco
    Drill
    Dub
    EDM
    Emotional Trap
    Hyper Trap
    Jazz
    K-Pop
    Latin
    Lofi
    Minimal House
    Neo Soul
    New York Rap
    Pop
    Pop Punk
    Rock
    R&B
    Synthwave
    Techno
    Trap
    UK Garage
    Wavy Trap
    West coast Rap

Although a subscription service, you can generate a certain number per hour with the free version to get a feel for its capabilities and export up to 3 songs to see how the midi export process goes. From there you could pay for a single month and download a couple hundred ideas then cancel your subscription.

A better alternative may be studying the music you like, figuring out the types of keys and progressions they use then using an app like Helium, Scaler, or other chord progression app as a starting point to work from.

  • If you really truly love your melodies in Groovebox, there is a python script that you can run With Pythonista that will convert the Abelton midi output to generic midi.

Songen looks good, will dig in more later thanks, don’t mind paying for the app just not interested in sound packs as would export straight to daw for my own synths.

I do usually build my own in ns2, Drambo or Helium, but playing with Figure today was so effortless made me want something like it but with midi export.

Yh maybe I don’t love them that much :) nice to know though if I came up with something worth going through that effort for

    Thank you for mentioning Beatly!

Drum n bass is really interesting idea, will definitely add it to my TODO list. Thanks!
Let me know if you need any help or support.

    Beatly Pro
    Piano Motifs
    Riffler
Songen is great - subscription though. You get 3 free midi exports.
Beatonal is really sweet, like figure on steroids - $2.99 unlocks core midi, export, and Link. You can change the sounds, the length, the oscillator settings, etc… adjust lots of parameters and features.
Fortamento - Simple 4 chords with melody
    Songwizard- IAP for midi export

  • Also..

Chordbot is pretty great at this as well.

    Toool, Flow Machines, Polyphase

Edit: can record midi to photon’s buffer, and regroove the midi

  • Remember also that you could just buy something like Atom 2 to record midi output from any app, then play around with it using Atom's fantastic feature set
