NanoStudio and midi

After you lay down a synth or a baseline in ns2 can you go back and edit the midi notes if you are off time? That’s the kind of daw that I need…m hoping ns2 will because beatmaker3 seems so complex and ns2 is simple

    Yes.

But be aware that NS2 doesn't have audio tracks. If all you're doing is MIDI based then NS2 is fabulous. If you want to work with recorded audio clips, not so much.

Cubasis is about as simple (though not as elegant) but has support for everything: IAA, AUv3, and audio tracks.

Can import my drum loops that are audio??

  • And can you tell me how I can edit those midi notes in ns2?

    Go into its piano roll.

NanoStudio includes a helpful manual. I recommend reading it.

It just involves double-tapping on a pattern to open the piano roll. The Song Editor and Part Editor sections of the manual are good places to start for further info. NS2's piano roll editor is one of the best there is.

Yes! I do this all the time - you can import loops into the Slate drum pads.

Just be aware that working with drum loops is very different in NS2 is different than in most DAWs. You won't be arranging audio clips on a timeline. You'll be triggering them from pads on the Slate drum instrument.

It gets tricky (in my mind) if you sometimes need to be able to trigger those clips from somewhere in the middle rather than the beginning.

I’d like to think someday there will be audio tracks……maybe. I know it’s been out for three years but if you remember it took forever for NanoStudio 2 to come out but it did eventually happen, who knows maybe there’s a NanoStudio 3 secretly in the works? Personally I’d like NS2 to be a little more stable when using auv3s, I’ve had issues.

Unfortunately, the developer posted a message on his forum a year or two ago that made it sound like he might not be developing it further due to lack of revenue. Maybe he will have a change of heart.
