4 track emulation AUM help/advise
I was wondering if someone could help advise the best way to do this?
This is a new discussion based on a previous post about portatron for the desktop.
Ideally I’d love to achieve this with the following:
- each AUM track to house either an instrument or file
- The effects slot to have a recorder to capture the performance (more on this In a sec)
- Underneath the recorder you’d have eq, gain, panning
- The signal would then be routed to a mix bus master
The mix bus master track would house all the AUM tracks and would them have all the tape effects, reverb etc etc etc
The issue I’m having in the instrument/file slot is finding a recorder to capture the performance to then allow me to slow down or reverse it. I’ve tried Enso but it’s dangerous as it captures the performance to memory so it could crash or not allow enough recording time even with long memory toggled. Gauss is perfect but you only get 45 secs. Loopy pro from @Michael is also great but pitch slow down and reverse are not implemented yet but this would essentially be the best solution.
I’ve tried multi recorder from 4pockets but the pitching is a process and not instant.
Also played with slow machine from BLEASS but no reverse there neither.
Any ideas would be appreciated otherwise until then I’ll continue to you gauss until loopy pro publishes then reverse and tape slow down pitching.
Thanks

This may be a dumb suggestion, but you could work round this by using pairs of strips, with your EQ, gain and panning on the second one, and a mix bus to pipe the first to the second. That way you can record the first of the pair before the EQ etc for reversing etc. Effectively you’re just splitting your strip into two at the point you want to record. Pipe the output of the second strip to your master bus.
Or were you wanting to do this in real time? In which case the above suggestion won’t help.
That’s a fair suggestion
I can't think of a real-time solution to this that doesn't involve recording to RAM. As you've noted, Loopy Pro comes the closest, but doesn't have pitch slowdown and reverse yet.
Among apps that record to RAM, Gauss has been more stable for me than Enso, but I see it in your screenshot so I assume you've already tried it. Neon Audio Editor comes close, but Reverse is non real-time.
Drambo's Flexi Sampler module would be my only recommendation. Recording time is limited and it is to RAM. But it's rock stable in my experience.
FYI I’m working on reverse and pitch slowdown right now, but it’s along with another few things so it might still be a month or two off.
That's great news @Michael ! For now, Enso is working the best for the result I wanted - fingers crossed I don't have a crash anytime soon and lose the recording stored in memory!
