Korg Gadget Update in August

  • But since we're speaking, Korg has a pretty decent sequencer. Why do you want to sequence it from other apps on sep. channels?

To be able to use it live, with other synths running on my ipad on separate midi channels, or to sequence it from Logic, communicate the midi via my iConnectMidi and get the audio back. But since korg manages to do midi on iOS worse then retronyms, the two best analog sounding synths that I have (Imini and IMS-20) end up being a pain to use professionally (sorry for the rant ;)

  • Oops, apparently I don't know how to quote things in here

Personally, I do most of my sequencing from my other hardware, and it would be more useful to me to sequence different Gadgets from my Octatrack.

I also use the iPad mainly as "extension" for my hardware stuff. Using Stroke Machine as sync slave to my Electribe SX/MX is rock solid. Using Gadget and/or iPolysix in sync with my Electribes would be a dream. But MIDI Clock support in Korg apps would compete with Korg's WIST. Therefore, I have some doubts that MIDI Sync will ever be implemented in Gadget or any other Korg App (except iElectribe).

You should give iSEM a try ;-) my favorite iOS Synth when it comes to analog emulation.Good MIDI implementation as well.Rolf (from Tempo Rubato)knows what he is doing. It seems that retronyms doesn't really have a long musical history.Otherwise they would care much more about Midi (they seriously asked why we would need MIDI out on the iMPC Pro but thats another story...).

@Klangsulfat:WIST is not very reliable unfortunately.I recently tried it with Gadget and the Volca series. The result is a bit shaky and often with a little (but noticeable) delay. And the"swing"in the sync kontrol app is a joke.Unusable.I ended with Cubasis/Auria and send an Audioclock via seperate output of my soundcard.THAT is a rock solid solution.Wish i could select more than stereo output in Gadget though.

Please reread my post above. I never stated that WIST is reliable or rock solid ;-) As far as I understand, WIST does only transmits the tempo value and the start/stop commands, but not a running clock: If I change the tempo on WIST device A, the tempo on WIST device B doesn't follows ... So WIST is definitely no replacement for a proper implemented MIDI clock synchronization.

  • I did not misread your post,i just added my experience with WIST in case somebody might interested to use it ;-)

  • @crabman , yeah, iSem is really great, and the midi implementation is perfect for my needs, I use it already for pads and 'strings', which it does amazingly well, but the basses and lead sounds that I get ou of imini and IMS-20 are just unbeatable. Another great 'analog' synth with a fantastic midi implementation and a huge sound is IVCS3.
But I'm really getting off-topic here, sorry :)

  • One thing I really wish Gadget had is real undo/redo. I don't care to think of how many times I've accidentally altered an automation curve.
