What direction to take with your creations

Over the last 2 years I’m finding that I’m falling in love with making beats, I have no idea what to do with my creations no one wants to listen to tunes without vocals.yea once I create a bad ass bear and add some bass to it, it sounds great but only if I knew any hip pop singers which I don’t. So what to you guys do with your tunes once they are created. I did create one techno album but it didn’t need any vocals for deep dark techno….
What do you guys do with your creations once they are created in this crazy ass world??

  • You could try doing it yourself with the use of Vocoders, Voice changers and Autotune etc. I like to put vocal samples on mine - it’s more along the techno & EDM line though.

Try Talker text to speech, https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/talker-text-to-speech/id956310491, pick a ‘performer’ whose gender, accent and delivery you like (be prepared to spell phonetically to get the emphasis you need), alter their ‘age’ with pitch and speed of delivery, screen cap your lyrics as short phrases, get creative with placing them in your piece using a DAW. (I’ve got nearly all of them but I find Multitrack DAW is the cleanest for quick n dirty no frills stem arrangement - https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/multitrack-daw/id329322101 ) e.g.:

  • It’s a shame Brapp.tv shutdown. It was a good place for sharing beats and anyone else could sing or rhyme over them. You could try selling beats on Beatstars or one of those monetized sites if you think they will sell.

  • I’ll add a lot of layers to my beats and that usually does more than enough to make up for the lack of vocals but if that’s not enough, I’ll improvise some guitar or keys over the beat as well to act as the lead voice

What is your goal? Is the goal to make music satisfies you or are you pursuing this hoping to make money?

Who are the people you say don’t want to listen to your tunes?

There are so many instrumental EDM tracks out there that can move people. Not all EDM needs vocals. Just a killer melody and harmony will do. Also, you'd be surprised at the amount of people who love listening to the crazy experimental Ambient soundscapes I make, many of which have no vocal elements at all added in, or if it does have a vocal element, it's more to add to the spectrum of sound rather than song lyrics.

I usually post them to SoundCloud. :)

Just specific on this part, I don't think dance music always needs any vocal. Play your great loops, drop in a few words over a long period of time if it even needs that, loop it too.

Now, if you mean a melody, then it's a different thing. It's an art in itself to write a good melody that appropriately go well with the harmony of your loops. For this, you'll just have to suck it up and learn the craft.

For me, if the music is fine without words, I'll just let it be. If I feel it needs a tune, then I'll have to write a melody. For lyrics, since I'm a man without words, I created a javascript that generates sentences based on pre-determined words. So, you'll do what you have to. Your own solution might sound strange to others but just trust your instinct. I don't think there's a wrong way to do it. The worst is you fall onto an unnecessarily long way. But that can be good too! :-)

There are quite a few people who enjoy listening to beats without lyrics. Beat tapes are still a thing.

  • I love this track and the simple vocoder(?) voice, dark, simple and hypnotic.
