Akai MPD216 Software - got iPad?

Hi,
I was looking at this MIDI drum pad (Akai MPD 218)
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MPD218--akai-professional-mpd218-pad-controller

What I'm looking for: a MIDI drum pad, that I can play, and trigger MIDI note messages to my iPad and play various percussion sounds and other synth sounds.

FOR EXAMPLE: Congos/Bongos; Zithers, Hand Claps, Whistles, Hi-Qs, Lo-Qs, Laughter...
FOR EXAMPLE: Trigger MIDI notes to send to various synths

I run my synths and drum samples in AUM on my iPad (of course)

QUESTION: Will this work? There's some MPC software from Akai - but it's not clear if this software runs on the iPad? Does anyone know? I think the software manages the hardware and does MIDI mapping, etc.

Thanks
AJ

  • ONE MORE QUESTION; do you think you can run the iPad software inside AUM?
or does the software only work stand alone in an iPad?

  • The Akai midi controller will work with an iPad. The MPC Beats/2 software is Mac/pc only. Akai does have a couple MPC iOS apps. I like Something like Koala or Sitala better.

  • I like my NOvation Launchpad proxl better than traditional 16 pad controllers, just a personal preference as I’m used to 64 pad controllers.

  • Take note: Akai pads are not as expressive as Novation Launchpad X and Pro pads. If you like stiff pads Akai is right for you, but if you want pads that are more squishy go with Novation.

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • I need help connecting my Akai MPD 218 to beatmaker 3 on my iPad. It won’t let me assign the pads
