Need a AU looper that doesn't require transport or tempo
I'm doing a live hardware set and want to use a looper in AUM for transitions. Enso won't work because it requires transport to be active, which it won't be. Gauss WOULD work but since each loop I record will be different lengths and tempos, the fact that Gauss always sets the looping to the last recorded length adds extra steps I need to remember. All I need is something simple I can throw in an AUFX node in AUM, hit record when I want, then hit stop/play when I want, then it just loops till I'm ready to change over. What is is there that would could work? I plan on mangling the audio with Spacecraft, which does allow recording, but it's not all just one quick button press. If Enso didn't need transport running, it'd be perfect.
Thanks!

Loopy Pro
I tried that out when it was released. It looks amazing, but it was a bit too much for me to handle. Maybe I'll give it another look, though my demo period has expired, which kinda sucks. Is there anything simpler?
For what you have described , loopy is pretty straightforward. Anything confusing could probably be easily answered:explained.
Cool cool. I'll look into it again. Thanks!
Koala can do loops.
Enso by audio damage
Loopy Pro for sure.
If that just won’t work out, Koala could work for this, but you’d want a very small Mozaic or Streambyter helper script to turn on loop and hold after recording.
I experimented a little with Neon for this. I could maybe work out the issues, but it seemed less promising than Koala.
I forgot to mention several 4Pockets apps.
Multitrack recorder
Digistix 1 and 2 can play loops on a pad.
Neon like @wim said.
Obviously Drambo. Lol.
SpaceFields
Neon if loopy doesn’t work for you
I can't say I'd recommend Neon yet unless I could work out a smooth workflow for the OP requirements. Loopy Pro can definitely do it. Koala could do it with a script to send a couple of midi-mapped commands. Neon? I'm not so sure.
I think you will find that Loopy provides a lot of utility that might prove useful down the line.
I think you might be right. For now, I may use it as an AU, but it looks like it could replace my AUM setup, esp. since it has external MIDI sync. My only question is, how deep is the MIDI routing and filtering? I have a pretty robust setup in AUM with my hardware, and even that isn't AS detailed as I'd like (may need to use my Blokas MIDIHub instead). I have channel, note, and CC filtering that I occasionally need to change on the fly.
For complex MIDI setups, AUM's routing matrix is nicely efficient. You can pretty much do the same routing (for midi) in Loopy but Loopy isn't as refined in this regard.
I originally thought that I would use Loopy strictly as an AU with AUM as the host -- but I now find myself using Loopy as the host about 70% of the time or more -- as I have found that being able to have custom widgets (buttons, sliders, xy-pads) integrated onto my "play surface" is really useful - also the ability to group clips.
Cool cool. I'll look into it some more. Thanks!
