JWM - I Shall Guide Thee (Ambient)

Take a journey into the Ancient Egyptian Underworld.

This piece is definitely inspired by Anubis, lol. A spiritual successor to my Seth piece if you will. Please enjoy and comment.

  • This time i really dig it :)
The sample in the first part could be Anubis to guide you into the giant hallways deeper down into the underworld.
The reversed echo contribute to that.

Exactly! The voice I recorded into SampleWiz is akin to Anubis guiding a person into those giant hallways deep down. And yes, that was also the point of the reversed echo, was to evoke a sense of mystery and invitation into the unknown higher ethereal planes of existence.

I'm glad you dig it. I decided that instead of going for a growing sense of unease and chaos to represent a god of destruction, I went for something more steady, serene, with a sense of easing the dread one initially feels after passing.

And unlike how modern depictions of Anubis make him out to be malevolent, Anubis was worshipped as a kind god and revered friend who not only would help you find your final resting place but also watched over your corpse to make sure it was protected and preserved.

  • There aren’t many ambient pieces that can hold my attention for 10: 25. I’m usually more of a short melodic instrumental/song kinda guy, but this kept me interested throughout. There were parts toward the end that sounded almost like a chorus singing a mantra. It does have a serene feeling but there is still darkness in this. Well done!

Thank you so much mate! 😃 That means a lot to me, especially since your attention was held throughout when most Ambient isn't your cup of tea. That's awesome!

  • High quality recording, and the sounds you created are very interesting.
Like MadeOfWax, you got me hooked.
    Love this recording.

Thank you so much my friend! 😃

  • Bit more variation in this than in some of your other pieces so I enjoyed it more (just personal taste 😊). Perhaps not as dark which again I prefer. Also I could link it to the title / story more so to sum up 👍

Thanks mate. :) Yep, this time the point of it wasn't so much a soundscape but rather more of a musical piece of Ambient, hence more variation. I mean, in a way it is still a soundscape at heart, but you get what I mean.

One of these days, I'll probably return to the more David-Lynchesque Dark Ambient, which I love. But, since then, I made some outer-space pieces, and a couple of Ancient Egyptian pieces (including this one). And one taking the piss out of this one guy I know (aka the piece titled "Elijah"). 😂
