THIS is the kind of instrument I want on iOS!
I made this little improvisation this morning using Giorgio Sancristoforo’s Ongaku synth. It’s a standalone synth made up of 4 oscillators that play to a scale ( or not) by way of a probabilistic sequencer and probabilistic variables which include envelope, frequency, volume, delay time and feedback, fold, lpg etc etc.
Basically it is the ultimate west-coast inspired jamming machine, capable of lush ambient, crazy bongo patterns, krell patches and everything in between.
This would be perfect on ios. I guess the best we can hope for is Aum or something hosting VSTs at some point in the future. That would be fricking amazing.

Just played around with Ongaku and I totally agree with you. This kind of instrument would be great on iOS...
Great soundscape you have going on here! 😉
I know I would love this but I never end up using the desktop apps I have, which include a few of Giorgio's. I just love the touchscreen experience. But he's brilliant.
It’d result in quite an extensive touchscape
Maybe one day!!! We can hope!
Hahaha!
Yes he’s really good and his stuff works nicely on a windows tablet, but then there’s no aum or rymdigare
Even the dev talks about soundscapes in his YouTube tutorial, sends shivers up my spine.
Someone actually mentioned to me the other day that there are touchscreen tvs or something of the type that you can buy. That would maybe convert me. Imagine playing a 40 inch reclinable screen. Would probably make me hate6my ipad Pro lol
Nearly twenty years ago an artist mate who I performed with had a massive HP touchscreen that he was using generative reaktor patches with, I keep meaning to ask him if he still has it running
🤩
Obligatory question, can something like this be done in Drambo? (I'm not joking here)

This is the touchscreen someone told me about. 3k! Buy this or buy the latest ipad Pro with max storage? 🤔
Since it’s electronic music, you could always call it an e-scape…
Or miRack?
Hmm, looks somewhat overpriced. Only HD resolution. There are likely better priced 43in 4k screens. At that size and cost, I'd want 4k especially after getting so used to retina displays. Seems like half the cost is the custom interface they provide for DAWs. Another option would be designing some in TouchOSC.
So share any good finds. It's an area I know nothing about but am intrigued by!
I haven't done any research in a long while. I think Junkie XL uses a similar screen for his studio. I'd love a huge touchscreen as well, if unlimited resources were an option. Ergonomically I think a smaller 24 inch surface for control and performance is likely better, and 43 inch for heads up display. I'm good with the 27inch screen I have now.
Are you using that 27 inch screen for iOS stuff?
No only PC. It's great for big patches of VCV. Haven't tried yet with iOS, maybe when more stuff gets external screen support. Also, mine is just a display not touchscreen.
Ah! I would like a huge > @auxmux said:
Ah! I would like a huge touchscreen to control the ipad. Big knobs and all that...
If someone makes this for drambo I’ll buy it again!
Me too!
Clunky presentation and a year old, but it shows what’s available.
Nice! But... He mentioned at one point loading a Plugin that was touch-enabled. Does that mean that other / most Plugins would not be touch-enabled?
On my windows tablet everything I’ve tried ( which isn’t much to be fair) is touch enabled. I’m pretty sure most new stuff can be controlled to some extent with touch. Audiothing’s noises works with fingers but not a pen weirdly enough.
I suppose where the ipad holds up here is the mobility and cheapness of apps. But damn.... Big knobs....
For touchscreen can’t you just use touch osc or midi designer and run it on desktop but controlled on iPad?
I'm talking about the potential joy of having a far larger touch screen than any ipad can provide.
Sure, it’s just a complex modular patch, probably built in csound or pure data or similar. But he has abstracted out some of the generative and feedback stuff so the user cannot see it. It would be a challenge to replicate without knowing exactly what is going on behind the scenes. I’ll bet you could get pretty close though.
But that would be like going to a museum and copying a masterwork. In this instance the patch itself is the work of art.
You forgot about the joy of saving the gym while exercising your shoulder muscles at the desktop...
this is intriguing. @sevenape: the clock seems to generate both note triggers and quantized pitch values. the probabilistic clocks feed into several non-pitched controls: attack, decay, etc. how are these controls affected by the clock? is it related to the clock pitch? or just random up to the control maximum? are controls changed by the same amount, or independantly?
yes. but a Drambo version would be hackable! :^)
So, the Envelope, delay values, volume, All the randomizable non pitched controls are made so you set the maximum amount and the values when triggered can be anywhere from zero to the maximum you set. Each knob on is like a sub divider of the main clock I think... So you can change fold value (for example) every time a note is triggered if the value is at maximum, or as you dial down it becomes less frequent.
