Had to try MBC on desktop as it got a bit tiny on iPad. Awesome MB processor. I love the per band overdrive. Wish there was more horsepower in that realm, and more ice cream flavours. But sounds great, super easy to use. and for the price and the amount I use MB Comp it's a no brainer over the FabFilter option (which I've bought and sold twice due to lack of use). Will be getting MBC for desktop as well. My first desktop TB plugin.

I highly recommend their "Equalizer 4" for desktop also. I find it invaluable.

I'm in a downsizing frame of mind right now. Been a Pro-Q user since v1. But for the occasional MB use and the price difference this is more than enough for desktop.

Only thing I haven't found is crossover slope. I assume it is there somewhere?

For the record: if an infinite compression ratio gives a flat input-output curve (which it should by definition), MBC can do a higher-than-infinite-compression ratio by combining the two curves :-)

In addition, if you need more (common) input gain in each band, there is an overall input gain control if you click on the cog at the bottom right.

To do OTT, you need infinite and near infinite downward, then lower ratio upward, so you need infinite etc on curve 1, then curve 2 can do the upward lower ratio, like I said, it doesn't quite do OTT (I hasten to add yet, I know what you are like for updates haha)

More than infinite downward compression above -30 dB, lower ratio upward compression below -30 dB: :-)

I have to admit it is a bit fiddly to get this

  • I get it! It should be easier to do this sort of thing. Something to look at (in addition to various other great suggestions)

  • @DJB Downward expansion for gating duties could a be pretty neat addition?
(That is mainly what I use the FF Pro-G for).

$25 for the Desktop version.. huh.. pretty reasonable..

  • Being a TB plug-in fan I had to get this one. It’s really easy to use and get quick, satisfying results. Will be using this often.

From their manual, section 4.1.1: "The spectrum editor serves the purpose of providing an overview of what dynamics processing is happening in various frequency bands. You can add, remove and move cross-over frequencies to remove, move or add new frequency bands, until the maximum number of frequency bands is obtained (currently the maximum is 10 bands, or 9 cross-over frequencies). The figure below shows an example of 3 bands with two cross-over frequencies. The first band is selected."

Toneboosters prices are always reasonable, which is why I have nearly all of their plugins and none of FabFilter's for desktop.

Might be worth changing the thread title now?

@AliAhmet no rush but be good for everyone to see it’s now released. Cheers.

@AliAhmet i know your busy handling the Beat Community and the Facebook group, but it be great if the title was updated so those just scanning thread title know it’s been released. Cheers!

  • Sounds fantastic for sure though I'm no expert on multiband compression, never mind regular compression. @winconway what would you see as the kind of use cases requiring ten bands?

It is one of the best bargains available, all TB plugins are, iOS or Desktop.

    Yep, I’m getting them both..

  • Is this an intro price? If yes, for how long? @DJB

  • I've pretty much moved to all my iOS stuff on my iPhone and only NS2 there and everything NS2 native, but I've always wished I could have a multiband compressor in NS2. I own the FF stuff, but alas, no iPhone versions. This plugin will probably be the only external plugin I will use  Would be great if NS2 allowed sidechaining for AUv3's, but it will be great as is. Great work @DJB

  • Another update to TB MBC just dropped :sunglasses:

Downward Expansion would still be a pretty handy 'thing' to have but that's up to @DJB to decide...

Or maybe that's something that is reserved for a potential TB Compressor update?
(So it could do both gating and limiting at the same time and smack the Apple AUDynamicsProcessor at its own game).

    Cheers!

Mostly mastering, sound design generally wont go past 4 bands, especially if you are layering.
Then again if you used a ton of bands on a beat loop you could do all sorts of cool boosts on transients and stuff by making the bands anchored.

    Cheers Win 👍

I'm home now. But I was hanging with some mates drinking, saw what @parnarules_85 wrote , and immediately purchased the MB Compressor via my iPhone. 🤣 My mates were like "what are you doing on your phone?" I said, "I just purchased a new multiband sound compressor." 🤓 Music nerd exposed.

Preset up/down arrows have gone on this latest build?

I don't remember seeing them on the initial release, I might be wrong.

Neither do I - but it should have them - could we get preset button arrows in all TB apps please @DJB? I know in the compressor they are much less useful than in a more typical FX type app like a delay or pitch shifter, but people still like to have them
