Goodbye Z trumpet

Had to sell my Z trumpet to pay bills. Said goodbye at the last moment in a unprepared mess of a song. All improvised 1st takes, mistakes and all. Gonna miss this horn.

  • Don't really know what a Z trumpet is, but it's never nice losing 'a friend'. Beautiful lament. Thanks for sharing.

  • Damn. I understand. I had to sell my 1915 pristine Steinway B for the same reason. I hope you got a good price. We still have iOS! (for me the platform has been more than equal to the joy I got from a great grand… I hope you find the same.)

  • Nice sounding trumpet!
    Love this musical score!
    Very nice combination.
    Beautiful for a one take!!!

    Thanks, @pbelgium, @ReneAsologuitar.

@LinearLineman: Thanks for the vid link. Yep, that’s what it is. Mine was an older gen with an extra custom leadpipe. I didn’t get as much as it was worth, but it was enough. About finding joy in iOS music making now...Yes, I am finding that too. A 1915 Steinway? B? I bet that sounded great.

  • @Dav, it was a dream come true.

  • Lovely track, great choice of sounds. Sorry for the loss of your trumpet…

  • This is one of the coolest things I have ever heard. I listened to this at least a dozen times. I am studying it. The melody is so tastefully restrained, and your tone is... like butter! The arrangement is stunning and just totally works. I wish this was a bit longer.

Regarding your horn, I had a similar experience many years ago. I had a 1960s Fender Precision bass. I am embarrassed to say what I traded it for! I was young and dumb. Several years later I did a recording session, and the engineer didn't like my fretless sound. I was told to use the 'house bass' instead. Guess what...

@Paulieworld: Just looked up the value of those basses today, I had no idea they fetched that much. Wow! I used a custom mouthpiece on that trumpet. It has a deeper cup than usual, which gives it a great tone. Great for jazz. I didn’t sell the mouthpiece.

@GeoTony : Thanks so much for the song feedback. I really appreciate it!

  • Since I’m listening in reverse chronological order… I know you’ll have another trumpet. Don’t thank me because by the time your read this you’ll think “What a jerk.” and that’s pretty typical for me.

  • I wasn't mad about the intro, but the rest of it, wow! Beautiful sensibility and playing, and when it got more dissonant it reminded me a little of the Chinatown score, one of my all time faves. Great stuff!

I miss the superlatives to express my feeling about this way too short piece of music.

Thanks for directing me to this one. Immediately appreciating the spacious sparkling and tinkling background.
Then the trumpet comes in and its sound causes goosebumps and instantly raises the level of class for this track even higher.
It's a sound you're not expecting to hear from the ambient introduction as it's unusual to find trumpet featuring in an ambient track. More commonly found in jazz recordings. So when it first drops in, you're like, wow, this is extra classy! I like easy mellow jazz with the sound of a gentle trumpet solo. I love ambient music. So this is a great partnership to my ears.

  • So glad this got bumped back into rotation. Reminds me of a night at Joe Segal’s Jazz Showcase in Chicago, featuring Lester Bowie. He was far out. Post more if you got it.

  • Hey thanks for listening, @Spidericemidas!

@Paulieworld: I have some more to whip in shape, and a bunch from my 01w days somewhere. Will post a few more.
