Excellent! It’s a very interesting synthesis method, I like it a lot. I was very interested in physical modelling synthesis back in the 90s, which led to buying a Yamaha VL70m which I ended up not doing much synthesis with (needed the software editor on the Mac, wasn’t free). It did have a very good saxaphone patch which responded to all the toungey-things a player does (I had one of those breath controllers you blow in, but ended up using a midi CC to do that in the song I used it in). Describing the physical model as wind or string with a resonant body is not greatly different to describing it as a set of interconnected springs – one has parallels with old fashioned musical instruments, the other is more abstract (unless you play a thing made of springs), but you end up in a similar if not the same direction.
The downside of Springsound is that probably nobody’s ever had a top ten hit with it. On the other hand, maybe it’s early days – someone will.
…it also has a remote-function for a connected Continuum, great stuff!
this made my day
One of my oldie but goldies! Thanks for the heads up, @gusgranite. Gonna redownload
Springsound updated again… working in AUM, Loopy etc… nice!
ios no. im crashing AUM
with 16.3 inside....
Eh that sucks
I’m on 16.3.1, working well
Working fine here, oh I'm so glad the dev managed to sort his issues with the app store, they were really driving him crazy rejecting every update he submitted.
Hm, can’t make it work in Audiobus for some reason, documentation has to be loaded in web browser (can’t view from app shortcut), BT MIDI button crashes program…
But finally loads and runs in AUM and Loopy! This is excellent. Having to run this from one device to another via an interface was a right old pain.
What is the deal with midi in and Spring Sound. I mostly used it with a Bluetooth mpe keyboard before. Just now I tried feeding a few sequencers to it but the only one I have managed so far is sqsl Latch, with Latch Virtual output as source and Spring Sound as destination, using the routing matrix in aum. How do I get SpringSound to play midi from midi apps loaded in aum, Rozeta Particles for example?
Actually, I see that the routing matrix in aum is making no difference at all to the midi from Latch going in. It's going in regardless of whether it is selected in the matrix or not. It's all a bit puzzling, also can't see any way in the spring sound app itself to configure what apps it receives midi from.
Try loading streambyter in background then route sequencer-> streambyter, streambyter-> springsound in aum matrix…
Edit: nah I see what you mean, it goes in as long as the sequencer output goes to aum virtual source regardless of any other routing. Can’t configure any further.
Thnx for trying anyway! I'm sure someone will think of a, workaround, if not could always message the dev and ask if there's anything he could do. This is such a great old app, and only 3 bucks!
OK so basically you just have to feed the midi app into aum source and then route aum destination to spring sound.
I do notice though that when loaded in aum, and Spring Sound is running in the background, you don't hear the collision noises of the balls. Take the init preset for example and compare how it sounds when you switch from having springsound in the foreground to having aum in the foreground while feeding midi in from a sequencer. However, running it in stage manager with aum also in stage manager, the sound is the same regardless of which is in the foreground.
Downside of using Stage Manager - it becomes impossible to press the Hold button in Spring Sound.
