Respect to Steve Davis

I trotted out a lazy old trope about Steve Davis being dull in another thread and was rightly corrected that that was some weird marketing ploy from the snooker heydays…

This just popped up in my feed so I am resetting the balance. Respect to Steve Davis 👊

  • This is fantastic… who’d have thought Steve would move into this? Brilliant 😀

  • A real modular nerd! Great to see

  • Great interview with Steve on the Chatabix podcast - talks about snooker, djaying and music - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/guest-steve-davis/id1560965008?i=1000559592466

  • Seen him live and he was great. proper noodly techno and really knows his stuff

  • I knew he used to DJ soul music but I had no idea he was now modular nerd. Amazing.

Good grief! Steve Davis not boring shock!! I absolutely love this. From the interview it is obvious he is genuinely into it it. And his band is actually pretty cool, featuring a former member of Coil.

Thank you, Steve. You are never too old to bleep. :)

So having never heard of him I googled and got Wikipedia’s profile on a Snooker champion? Same guy?!

Wow. How does one get here from there? Someone mentioned DJing soul music but what a leap!

I’m pretty sure this means that he can play in the pocket.

  • Look what I've started!

Yes, I was shocked. Not sure how long he’s been into the synths, maybe a long time, he seems very at home with his gear.

@LeeB : the info on Tidal says he was into electronic and prog rock for a long time (even sponsoring concerts by French prog rockers Magma out of his own pocket), but only got into modular in 2016. First album: 2019. Fast learner. At age 61… He is 4 years older than me. So there’s still time… Right: first step - win the snooker championship…

Thank you for that info. It’s great to see him enjoying what he does.
Yes, I’m sure having won the championship a few times helped with funding the hobby.
    Good on him!

  • I grew up in Romford, the same town he was nicknamed after and owned a snooker club in.
I thought he was born there, but Plumstead says the web.

I'd met him once at an event signing autographs in the mid 90s. He was fanatical about snooker, so I can see his persona shining through in DJ'ing and making modular music.

Funnily enough I saw Utopia Strong advertised at Colchester Arts Centre (where I live now) on Insta, but didn't look into who they are until I saw this post.

“ There are no second acts in American lives” said F. Scott Fitzgerald. But if he had come from Plumstead…

    “Interesting” 🤣

Used to be obsessed with snooker myself during the 80s. Practically lived in the local snooker/pool club after school (sometimes bunked off in there too!) 😁
    Loved watching Steve Davis.

I always found this sketch funny. He has a good sense of humour.

Colchester Arts Centre (and Colchester town). Know them very well. Went to a few crazy gigs there back in the day! You’re almost on my doorstep!

  • Thought this was a wind up quality hats off to Steve!
