syncussion 2022

This had flown under my radar and I tried the search.... This is an emulation of and old pearl drum machine . IT is very wacky and unique, I mean look at the layout haha! Its not hip to the other cats like auv3 but it has midi. It has crashed a few times but is new and hopefully updated so it can play with other Enron cats.

  • I should note its a $15. But I am a sucker for vintage drum machines and this was somewhat of a holy grail. Very odd parameters and osc concepts>

I remember the hardware, and, over-determined by my love for Joy Division in general, and Stephen Morris’ Synare 3 drumming on She’s Lost Control in particular-

    -

lusting after the fancier Syncussion at Bob Henrit’s drum store in Wardour Street.

(It’s shown here triggered by a drum machine, but iirc, came with a pair of mini bongo style real drum head triggers on a stand at the time).

Got this very capable but cheaper JHS alternative rip-off of the Synare instead:

It could do those JD white noise snare cracks no problem .Wished I still had it…

But, yeah, the Syncussion had it’s own, very distinctive sound and was, dare I say it, better than both the Synare and the JHS. It’d take the advent of the Simmons SDS V to kick things up to the next level. (My dream was a Simmons and a TR808. I had to settle for the JHS and DR55 instead, supplementing my rototom- heavy regular kit. )

I’d be tempted by the app if it had AUV3, but £15 for it without is a bit steep. Be interested to hear what you do with it mind!

Then again, I might get this instead…

Further down the rabbit hole, Behringer, inevitably, have announced they are making a clone, but frankly at this point, I believe them when the gear is in the store. Still waiting for a few things they announced were ‘coming soon’ over two years ago. Still, fwiw:

  • @cazel : ah! Thanks! I was searching for Syncussion, not synthcussion! :)

  • Isn’t Behringer creating a Syncussion clone too.

@knewspeak : see end of my long post above for link.

Thanks, I must be going blind!

Covid delays & world-wide chip shortages in their supply chain? A perfect storm for electronic product delays.

  • @attakk : I’m sure you’re right, and I am not one of those knee jerk Behringer haters (I have a Neutron, some studio gear, and a couple of their clone Eurorack modules), but I also think they like wheeling out ideas for gadgets a mile a minute as if they are are actually going to be a thing, and then sitting back and seeing how much buzz they get before going forward. Didn’t they promise a VCS3 clone at one time? And still no sight of their DFAM-alike. So: I’ll be delighted if this actually becomes a thing, but I am managing my expectations.

  • how is the app? anyone buy in? its not cheap, given its lack of connectivity.

Just plug that pad drum controller into Drambo and get it over with.

It’s remarkable how we’re stuck in the past. The software has moved us way beyond what the hardware of the past ever could do, yet, melancholically we keep looking, teary-eyed at those dusty contraptions. Humans, huh?….

I got my old Scalextric out recently to play with my son - like my father had done with me when I was a boy before bedtime. And it was great for about 10 minutes or so but as great as it was it sure isn’t F1 on the XBox SeriesX…

Ah, but the imaginings it sparked and now the veil before your very ‘eyes’.

  • Anyone know if there is a roadmap for this app? I’d love to have it but without any connectivity it’s useless unless you screen record and then drop that into koala or sitala.

It's a shame this app hasn't been updated :( there are quite a few bugs/crashes. Having said that I did have the Digitakt triggering and controlling it at one point which worked quite well. I though I'd try and examine the Mac OS apps contents, strangely I could find only two wav files, not 6 as I would expect. Anyway, Here's a screenshot of them loaded into Koala for anyone who is interested:
