4Pockets Progressions Upcoming 1.02 Update - SPOKEN 10-min Walkthrough!

4Pockets Progressions Upcoming 1.02 Update - SPOKEN 10-min Walkthrough!

4Pockets Progressions is VERY different from any other chorder / scaler app I know of in its ability to make complex progressions that push music theory to its limits. In this spoken walkthrough / tutorial I go through the most important new features of the 1.02 upgrade, which depending on when you watch, is either about to be released soon or has already hit the AppStore. My fave thing is the new drag and drop features, which make the workflow a bit more similar to Scaler 2, but there’s even more, including a nice new tweak to the arp and strummer. Watch to find out more.

  • The update is out... Thanks.

  • Ah good to know it's out!

  • Nice walkthrough, thanks!

  • Keeping this open to watch in a few hours when I get home. In the time being, how do you dig it compared to ChordJam, @Gavinski? From what I saw so far, it seems more interesting. I got chordjam, but I still go to Navichord for my chord-ish needs

I never ended up using Chordjam much. Not really sure why......too many apps, not enough time, only very few things end up becoming part of my regular workflow. Will Progressions? Only time will tell. These drag and drop features definitely make it more likely. Definitely Chordjam has some nice features too though....

  • Gotta agree. We have an overflow of apps/solutions
And maybe one complements another, or overlaps. It's crazy trying to figure out stuff and thinning out the options

  • Watched your video on youtube right now. Loved the walkthrough

1.03 now out. Good to see the dev is working to enhance this interesting application. Still feels a bit idiosyncratic in terms of how the interface operates between different windows. It seems he is interested in responding to feedback so probably now is the time to give it, while the code is still in an active state of development.

I note that the info screen says for iOS and & M1 Mac - excellent..

I find the separate windowing aspect can be frustrating and presumbably is there on account of the dev seeking to make this app work on an iphone. On iOS, the screen estate would be sufficient to incorporate the Song Editor into the main edit window which would I think make the app easier to work with, rather than having two separate 'pools' of chords, each with their own unique editing functions that are contingent on which pool is operative - (by pools I mean the persistent 6x3 button matrix vs the Song Mode Window, which now has an additional 'pool' - the Conductor area.)

I think if the various edit modes could be streamlined and integrated it would really help when working with the app.

One small bug: if you move the Chord Seq Gen window down to lower part of the screen and then press the keyboard icon on the bottom of the interface, the chord seq gen window now obscures the arrow that closes the keyboard area.

Definitely get your ideas in ASAP..the way Paul works, generally, is to release something , then do a lot of improvements on it in the first weeks or , before moving on to the next project. Strike while the iron is hot. Undo / redo would still be very useful, for example.

This project seems ‘unique’, it seems like so much can be done to Progressions to make it the ultimate music creation app.. Maybe IAPs can help in its development (instead of just ‘moving on’)..
Will love to see a ‘mono switch’ in the Arp for Bass parts (in the randomizer also), Probability and undo, redo as mentioned by some..
