Meteor Fountain (AUM with hardware controllers live performance)

This is an AUM live performance session. No loops. All original music. All synths and drum machines are played and controlled live.

Korg nanoKey Studio, Korg nanoKontrol Studio, Launchpad X (custom mode), and a second iPad are mapped to AUM controls as well as LK, Fugue Machine, and Riffer.

There are 2 LK instances. First one holds the music MIDI notes and the second holds the MIDI automation and can record and plays back all automation. Launchpad X’s custom mode includes 3 areas. MIDI channel 1 (red buttons top right) holds program changes that control Fugue machine preset loading. MIDI channel 2 (blue, dark green, yellow, white, and purple buttons) holds the MIDI mappings to the first LK instance that holds the music MIDI. Channel 2 is also mapped to control Riffer. Channel 3 (green buttons bottom right) controls Pure Acid patterns. nanoKey Studio, nanoKontrol Studio, and the second iPad are connected to the main iPad wirelessly with Bluetooth.

Setting up the hardware midi mappings and routings was complicated. It was like weaving a rug and took me a few days. Now that it’s done, this template can be used for any future live session performance, automation recording and playback. Import MIDI notes to first instance of LK, create new patterns in Fugue Machine, Pure Acid, and Riffer, create new drum patterns in Gadget and Playbeat, replace synths with others, hit the Capture MIDI on Launpad X to record all MIDI automaton, and it’s good to go.

Hardware:
M1 iPad (main)
2018 iPad (used to add 8 more mixing channels. Combined with the nanoKey Studio, this addition gives the session a 16 channel mixing board)

Korg nanoKontrol Studio

  • Sweet. Is that MIDIsynthcontrol on the other iPad? I got my LPX not long ago and have also been spending a few weeks creating custom templates with MIDIsynthcontrol for the LPX’s custom modes, but I haven’t purchased yet the thing required for making custom templates for software. I’m loving it so far. It’s the first time writing and arranging on IOS has never felt painful to me, and my same template can be use as a live jam too, though not as refined as yours yet, but It’s lots of progress for me.

Enough about me though, it’s evident you have created your own personalized iOS zen garden. I love how you’re moving about with ease and all the while it sounds like the music is organically evolving. Very, very, nice. 👏👏

    Thank you @Blipsford_Baubie!

That is LK on the other iPad. I love LK. I think it’s one of the most powerful sequencers on iOS. The nice thing is you can map Notes, PC, and CC to pretty much everything in it.

“iOS zen garden” <— :-) Love it! I hadn’t thought of it in those terms but it is exactly that. It’s a joy to perform live and make music with this set up. Since I’m sending midi all over the place I can simply replace the soft synths with my hardware synths on different midi channels. I’m loving it. Definitely worth the time spent. If for nothing else you will learn a ton just doing it.

    Cheers bud!
