The B Roll Machine: Rainbow Delay Is Instant Film Epicness

Just in case anyone is interested:

Here is a quick demo of a ‘B Roll Audio Auto Generator’ I knocked up in AUM based on two instances of Monolit, and various effects.

Once I got one channel making stuff I liked, I just duped it, and tweaked some of the settings on the new channel, and duped the MelodyBud too, doing likewise, as well as shifting the second ‘bud’s octave range higher. *I also realised I didn’t need another MIDILFOs instance, the 4 LFOs in the first were plenty for the fader automation, so I knocked it out.

The real secret sauce is provided by the two instances of the newly released, currently bargain priced Rainbow Delay polyphonic delay, https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/rainbow-delay/id1634495935 , which immediately turns the MelodyBud provided phrases driving the Monolits, er, mono, into rich sounding chordal noises. Really liking this new delay… :)

Something very much like this will be used by me to provide background B Roll audio for whatever spooky old film those taking part in the Public Domain scoring challenge choose to go for. It’s an auto generator so it will keep providing shifting, evolving colour for as long as I leave it to run, with no further input from me necessary.

I usually let my set ups like this run over time, then trim back in AudioShare to the best bits, or maybe do some live mixing and tweaking as it runs.

  • Very interesting, and very cinematic.
I can visualize and hear this music scape in a film.
    What a process!
    Well done!

Thank you. A process indeed. One that I find a darn sight easier than singing, or learning to play an actual instrument! ;) (though I wish I had that talent…)

btw… I wonder how you might feel about providing a wordless vocal for the PD Movie challenge? You have such a beautiful voice, it could be amazing to have you provide some vocalisations, or maybe even some multitracked vocal stuff? Aahs and Oohs or whatnot, with or without guitar, of course…, Maybe even just some chants, wails, or noises for the aforementioned B roll, leaning heavily on the goth/dark button? Channel your inner monsters? :) Or angels? Just a thought…
