I have to say I am surprised and very happy to see a creative blossoming here on ABF. It’s something I always wanted to happen since I joined four years ago.
Does this mean iOS is maturing as a platform? Does it mean more folks are overcoming shyness about posting? Has ABF become more welcoming to tech’s creative sister? Are more creatives discovering ABF as a place their work is received with good fellowship? Probably all the aforementioned. It’s certainly good to see and hear.

I'm thoroughly enjoying what I've been hearing from the AB Forum members.
Several things come to mind -
Increasing interest in ambient and generative music which can be produced quickly and doesn't require keyboard skills or in many cases high level mixing / mastering
Far fewer new apps to distract people compared to a few years ago.
People's skills improving over time
Agreed, I will also add this, they are gaining in confidence.
It takes a lot to overcome that insecurity.
Will the audience like the music? will they disparage it?
is it good enough? the usual stuff but they are big things for many.

On a more serious note I think it’s always been a very welcoming, helpful space, at least since I’ve been around. There’s a minimal amount divisive topics shared, people are very helpful, nice, and supportive. I try to keep that feeling alive as much as I can because the forum, and its members have been so helpful to me over the years, that for me, it’s very important to keep that vibe alive for others. It also benefits the entire iOS music ecosystem as things expand. It sure seems like a lot of online environments are not as welcoming, positive, friendly, and helpful. So… Let’s Keep the AB Forum Vibe Alive and Well! Lol.

Here in the balmy north of England it's the rain that is increasing productivity. I guess in the grand scheme of things were lucky 🌨️
I think @Gravitas summed it up for me i.e. confidence, audience etc. Learning that it's not a race also helps I think 🤔
IMHO, the real and unique reason. Experiments without any real value for listeners, only for “creators”
When I first got an ipad not to long ago I would come here to get reference on the ecosystem due to it being almost completely oppossite of what I had been used to for 15 years (windows/ android). I wasnt really making new threads asking for help, but passively looking and reading. Due to most of the threads being very positive and extremely outgoing I said ok this is a forum that I can get down with keeping me positive. Just skimming through it daily will keep my mental state positive for what im about to do (make some tunes). Its the only forum I have ever signed up for and stuck around. Im a huge believer in surrounding yourself with positivety wether it be in the form of laughter or excitment to learn new things. For now it seems like the place and you guys/gals are good people in my book.

First build trust with an artist by finding something you can sincerely praise. NOTE: the urge to fix something might be overwhelming. Resist that urge.
Now the creative will get something out of the risk of sharing.
I like to scan the creations thread for work that passed by without any comment. Given a second shot it almost always triggers more comment. I can think of a few regulars that I singled out and developed a sense of community with by just saying “I missed this and I love ————“. Then someone else comments. Often the artist releases a new track and I’m on it. Most is the regulars just got a response beyond the usual:

I don’t usually like GENRE but …
It’s also hard to compete with the amazing creatives like EchoOpera, linenentlinebacker and the usual warlords. Note: they have slowed down for personal reasons we could theorize about… my money’s on a solving global warming or getting armed to fight in Ukraine against desktop Russians.
So, comment positively and we will find more talent or help someone find a reason to live. Not a bad way to spend online.
If it’s safe more will play and remember an opinion is like an asshole… we all have one.
Personally I have lost the urge to create but it will return when I stop needing to visit the hospital everyday for morale support.

Well said, I totally agree. I lurked for answers for a little while before I officially signed up, made my first post, and eventually started my first thread, now y’all can’t shut me up, lol. I think a lot of us approached the forum in a similar manner. I had a question and could not find an answer anywhere, I knew it was time to ask for help in the forum. Cheers!

I don’t like using Genre’s or labels in music either, never did, but they are crucial in trying to describe, something intangible like music.
It’s the required language of the critic. They can only use comparisons and references to fill a column of text.
My first shared work got 2 comments:

You sound like Lonnie Liston Smith. You should consider using more chords.
I went searching for Lonnie Liston Smith music and didn’t hear myself and it wasn’t mellow in my estimation. The more chord thing was a by product of layering performance over an obstinato bassline so no thought to a chord progression.
So I tried making some non-mellow music and got something more positive. In general breaking rules will get more response and recognition since we have all heard so much music we tend to want a surprise to justify the investment.
Personally I tend to jump around in a 9 minute ambient drone just to see if there are sections. 9 minutes for a click-bait stimulated brain is a lot to ask. I will listen to the good drones while taking a nature hike but not text any feedback.
The audience changes an insecure artist. I haven’t hung many works up on this forum that sounded like me as much as that first work. The forum tender to make me an app experimenter with less interest in what I value in music. So, I really try to pull the person out of the music and do less: “you should consider taking some voice lessons”.
People will write: I’d appreciate any feedback but I suspect that is because their family is really not that into music, art or giving encouragement.

What if … I was thinking what if someone would make an AB Forum podcast? Someone who likes speaking (but not too much) and introduces the creations of our various people; a little like a radio show. You could even have, maybe, interviews with forum people. If I was doing it, (and I cannot for many reasons) I’d want to stick completely to AB forum members and what they do; and maybe a little about how they do it; but mostly just play the creations.
It could be a good hands-free way to listen to the pieces. On the forum itself, I’m always a little bothered because I must always click to a new post, listen, close that and return to click on another post. It interferes with my flow. Or if I’m doing something like walking or bike riding, I’d like to listen to more forum music but it’s too difficult. Anyway, just a thought.
I see there are free podcast platforms like Anchor. Not sure how it works but I thought I put it out there.

I did a few prerecorded radio shows last year which were well received.
To make things clear I'm currently in the process of creating a label
with one section focusing on iOS music and Eurorack stuff
so doing a podcast is well within my remit so to speak.
Hey! I hope you consider doing this. I think it could be really interesting. And if you were finding yourself too busy some times, maybe you could get guest hosts from the forum. Make it a communal endeavor.

There are people out there who find value in listening to Ambient and Soundscapes and other such sonic experiments. People who don't create it but love to listen to it. Just because you find no value in listening to such sounds doesn't mean others don't.
