How do Odesza make this sound?

The sound that kicks in at 1:07

Delay with an interval that you can slow down to a curve or something? Is there an app that can make this sound on iOS?

(This whole track is sound design genius to my ears)

also, check out this song... think you will like it :) has a lot of the same tricks, as well as just a similar feeling, although a completely diff tempo / genre

Nice! Thanks! Hadn’t thought of that.

I’m now on a mission to find an iOS synth that can do this on its own. BLEASS Alpha seemed like it probably would but arp rate isn’t in the modulation target list. Any chance @bleassapp ? 😉

Edit: Just having a play around in Drambo and getting somewhere

Sugar Bytes’ Factory has an arpeggiator and a modulation matrix on steroids. Anything can modulate anything.

It was made sampling a doorstop, the coiled cylinder kind with the rubber tip. Pulling it to the side and letting it go so it quickly moves back and forth. No joke

I was going to suggest using the Arpeggiator
in dRambo and modulating the rate from fast to slow.
The actual sound? you could possible try "Modal Synthesizer" in MiRack
    or the Burns Spectrum app.

It also sounds that there's another gate source separate
from the Arp which gives it that polyrhythmic effect.

I may have a go myself.

    Sounds really cool.

Awesome, thanks! I always forget about Spectrum.

I’m getting stuck modulating the arp rate with an envelope in Drambo. I got it working with an lfo but it needs to be triggered by the keyboard really… I’m a bit of a Drambo noob

Try automating the "Rate" knob on the ARP module rather than using an LFO for now.
Double tap the "Rate" knob and select "Add automation track"
and then you can draw whatever rate you need.

In case it wasn’t clear, I was using the lfo to modulate the rate knob and it works…

I could use automation but it’d be great to do it with something that the keyboard will trigger, like an envelope.

    Yeah agreed.

I went straight for the effect as simply as possible.

    Edit.

I also automated the "Range" as well.

Got it! Add another midi to cv module before the lfo, and connect it’s gate to the gate of the lfo. That makes it trigger the start of the lfo with the key press.

Will tidy it up and make a video

Edit: this also now works with a envelope instead of an lfo

    Sweet.

    That makes it playable.

  • This thing is fun! Listen to what happens when I turn up the filter resonance about half way through the video

  • also,, keep in mind it may be a chord triggering Arp. So the arp doesnt actually go between notes, it just triggers the chord faster and slower

I need to work out how to do chord triggering arps in Drambo! 😂

  • anyone know how to chord trigger as described above in Drambo? StepPolyArp (and GR-16) has this mode, but as far as I know it doesn’t have a free running mode.
